Update from the Barkleys (December 2016)
Dear <<First Name>>,
What wonderful time of the year! It's a time for family and friends. Starting with Thanksgiving and on through the end of the year, we turn our minds to those that mean the most to us. I'm so thankful for my wife, who has been so very faithful and supportive. I don't know what I would do without her. Then there is, my son, Brandon, and daughter-in-law, April. And then what papaw could talk like this and not mention the GRANDKIDS!!! Thankfully, this year the adoption of Joshua, Ricardo, Yessenia and Aleysia was finalized. That makes SEVEN...Alaynia, Kyler, Joshua, Ricardo, Alexys, Yessenia and Aleysia. Thank you Brandon and April for adding so much to our lives. We love you all. (Sorry, but papaw had to brag a little.)
It’s been another busy month. We had Brother Jhonny Kaune here from Bolivia for a seminar in Talca called "Restoring Families”. This was a great blessing to Chile. This was such a blessing and strengthened home and marriages here in Chile. We will be having more of these conferences in the future, including one at the national level here in Santiago.
One of the precious saints of Los Morros.
We have been traveling quite a bit this month. I took advantage of the trip to Talca for “Restoring Families” and was able to visit churches in San Clemente and Los Morros, a village way out in the country. It’s just a small group of houses really, about 8 kilometers off the road. We had a awesome time there. This was the first time I have visited this place. I’m scheduled to go back on February 12th to dedicate a baby. Los Morros is very, very country. Just my kinda place. I loved it.
We have also been visiting and preaching in the churches here in the Santiago area as well as teaching in the bible school, and of course, there are always meetings and administrative things to attend to.
I have received reports of several baptisms in many parts of the country. Recently we baptized 4 in Canela, our newest work, located about three hours north of Santiago. God really is moving here and we are so very thankful for His blessings to us.
We will be going home for the holidays and vacation. I also have to have some medical work done at Cleveland Clinic. As some of you know, I have a condition called Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy, or HCM. Since there are no HCM specialists here, I need to have this work done at Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, OH. Please pray that these tests will go well.
It will be so good to spend time with family and friends for a couple weeks. I wish we had time to see all of you, but that isn't possible. Please know that, even if we can't get around to see you, we love and appreciate all of you who have made our lives so much richer Thank you, again, for everything you do for the Kingdom in general and for us in particular. May God abundantly bless each of you this Christmas season!
As we say here in Chile, "Reciba un abrazo a la distancia." (Loose translation: Here's a long-distance hug.) Feliz Navidad y año propero y felizidad.
