Happy Fall 2015!
This month not only marks the beginning of fall, but it is also Healthy Workplace Month. Employers are encouraged to educate, engage and empower their employees as well as evaluate current procedures they might or might not have in place to deal with mental health. Excellence Canada has prepared a Prezi outlining Tips for Educating Employees which is the first step to change and recognition of mental health in the workplace.
Apply S.M.A.R.T. goals to your workplace mental health awareness plan

S   Specific - What must I accomplish?
M  Measurable - How will I know if I'm on track?
A   Achievable - Have I aimed too high or not high enough?
R   Relevant - Is it realistic with the people and resources available?
T   Time - What is the deadline?

A corporate goal is most effective when it’s measurable and has real-world impact.  Although an overall goal of “making our employees healthier and more engaged" is a noble idea, it’s hard to quantify and see if you’ve made any progress.  Instead, a S.M.A.R.T. goal would go one step further, such as:

1. “To encourage our staff to go for a 20 minute walk at lunch every day”
      a. In order to accomplish this, our management team will encourage at least              30% of all staff register and participate in a ‘walk-at- lunch’ contest                           by October 31st.
      b. We will communicate this contest through emails, posters, flyers, staff                     forums
      c. Prizes and incentives will be awarded each month to successful                             participants
Study: Work-Life Challenges Across Generations

Ernst Young did a global survey of full-time workers in 8 countries finds that one third say that managing work-life has become more difficult, with younger generations and parents hit hardest.

Knowing that millennials and parents are under increasing pressure, we wanted to understand what employees seek in a job — why they quit, why they stay and how this differs by generation.
