An "Attitude of Gratitude" Across the Diocese
As Block 2 of Upon This Rock nears its end, there have been many parishes surpassing their goal – this week was no exception! Both Fr. Robert Yetter, pastor of St. Mary in East Amherst, and Fr. Richard Blazewski, pastor of St. Isidore in Perry, reported their parishes’ success with great enthusiasm. We spoke with both of them about what these accomplishments mean for their communities.
The church building at St. Mary’s in East Amherst, constructed in 2010, stands as a testament to every family that has worshiped at the parish since its opening in 1849. Built to accommodate the parish’s ever-growing population, the church culminated years of planning and dedicated work by hundreds of families. Thanks to the incredible parishioner support for Upon This Rock, the church’s mortgage can be paid off in full, representing yet another important turning point for St. Mary’s parish.
“I have been very happy with such supportive results,” shared Fr. Yetter, discussing the impact Upon This Rock has had on St. Mary’s. “We have built upon the past in order to create a solid foundation for the future of our parish and the Diocese of Buffalo.” With the remaining funds from their parish share, Fr. Yetter said he hopes to expand parking facilities and set up an endowment at St. Mary’s.
In Perry, Fr. Blazewski expressed similar sentiments as St. Isidore celebrated its recent accomplishments. “My best experiences of the campaign were the one-on-one meetings with my parishioners,” he said, describing his numerous encounters with families, learning more about them and their call to serve. Many at St. Isidore felt they had benefitted from their Church and saw Upon This Rock as an opportunity to give back – Fr. Blazewski explained, “I call it an ‘attitude of gratitude.’” With the funds from the campaign, the parish plans on addressing needs at both of its worship sites, including heating and cooling issues, as well as replacing the churches’ roofs.
We look forward to seeing what the future holds for both of these two parishes. Congratulations to Fr. Yetter, Fr. Blazewski, and the supportive communities at both St. Mary’s and St. Isidore.
