Paving the Way for Catholic Education

“Train up children in a way they should go,
and when they are old they will not depart from it.”
- Proverbs 22:6

Upon This Rock was set in motion by Bishop Malone as a way to strengthen and reinvigorate Church throughout Western New York.  Some of the most exciting components of the campaign are those that focus on education, starting our students off on the right path for their future.  Of the campaign’s $100 million goal, the Diocese has earmarked $3 million for capital investment in the STREAM program at Catholic elementary schools.  Additionally, $12 million is allotted for a permanent endowment to provide additional tuition assistance to both Catholic elementary and high school students.

This mission to bolster our students does not end there!   On Thursday, January 19, the Foundation of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Buffalo will host Gala 22:6, the 17th annual dinner and auction event to support Catholic education in Western New York, specifically raising funds that provide scholarships for students in our elementary schools.  Silent and basket auctions are a hallmark of the night, offering opportunities for guests to win signed Sabres’ memorabilia, tickets to a host of performance events throughout the year, and even a ‘Night on the Town’ with Buffalo Bills’ legend Thurman Thomas.

The evening is also when Bishop Malone presents awards to organizations and individuals who advance the educational mission of our Catholic schools and encourage our children to live a life in keeping with the Gospel message.  This year’s Bishop’s Medal recipients are the Buffalo Museum of Science, M&T Bank/M&T Charitable Foundation, and Robert T. Scott.  The Tim Russert Sister Lucille Socciarelli/Fr. John Sturm Making a Difference Award will be presented to Polly Lougen.

If you are interested in buying last-minute tickets to Thursday’s event, or interested in participating in our on-line silent auction, visit www.501Auctions.com/Gala226 for more information, or call Laura DeMizio at 716.847.8373.  We hope to see you all there!

A Prayer for Upon This Rock

Loving God, we come to You,
standing together in faith,
ready to realize the freshness of a bold endeavor,
as we look to the future of our Church.

Building up the Kingdom of God on earth is Your will and our privilege.
Bless our efforts with the energy and enthusiasm we need.

Jesus, our Redeemer,
encourage and guide us.
Open our hearts to be good stewards because of our love for You.

Holy Spirit, our Sanctifier,
empower us to carry out Your will for the Upon This Rock campaign.

May Your Goodness be upon us,
And give us success to the work of our hands and hearts.

We ask Your blessing now and always
through Christ Our Lord.

Amen!
