As Campaign Heats Up, One Parish Cools Off!
November is a time for preparation and reflection: Autumn leaves fall and we know that winter weather is around the corner. Down jackets and comforters are pulled from storage to protect us from the forthcoming deep-freeze. And with Thanksgiving drawing closer, we consider that for which we are most grateful. This week at St. John Gualbert in Buffalo, however, Upon This Rock has parishioners thankful for air conditioning.
Coming out of its first Commitment Weekend on November 5 and 6, St. John Gualbert reached 103% of goal, having officially surpassed its $270,000 target. Our staff spoke with Fr. Michael Burzynski who was excited to see how much his parishioners were able to achieve throughout the campaign. “It was a surprise,” Fr. Mike shared, “It looked like an awesome task – we’re not a wealthy parish by any means – but our people were very generous.”
With the 35% of funds going back to the parish, Fr. Mike told us that he and his Ambassadors plan to install air-conditioning in the church, which will prove to be a much-welcomed addition come. “Over the last summer, it was particularly hot,” he said, “we want to make sure parishioners are comfortable when they come to Mass – so they can actually enjoy the liturgy!” These improvements will certainly be appreciated in due time, making a much more pleasant church-going experience at St. John Gualbert, especially in the hottest summer months!
Fr. Mike remains extremely grateful for his parishioners’ on-going support – stressing how much he has enjoyed getting the opportunity to connect with his community through Upon This Rock. He conducted his parish’s second Commitment Weekend on November 12 and 13; numbers from this event will be reported in next week’s newsletter on Monday, November 21.
Congratulations to Fr. Burzynski, his team of volunteers, and everyone at St. John Gualbert for your continued campaign successes!
