Always Moving Forward
The Upon This Rock campaign saw an exciting week, as two parishes – St. Peter in Lewiston and Good Shepherd in Pendleton – surpassed their goals! Pastors Msgr. David LiPuma and Fr. Daniel Young are both eager to marshal in new eras at their churches, marked by the projects that are now financially possible thanks to overwhelming parishioner support.
“Now our work can really begin,” exclaimed Msgr. LiPuma when we spoke with him on Friday. With its parish share, St. Peter in Lewiston will be making significant improvements and renovations to its parish hall, school, and church that will upgrade the handicap accessibility of the facilities. The parish was the Diocese’s first to participate in a Combined Campaign, raising capital funds in conjunction with Upon This Rock to address extraordinary local fund-raising needs. Msgr. LiPuma reports that contractors will break ground at the end of June. Work is scheduled for completion shortly before the Christmas season.
In Pendleton, Fr. Young was equally enthusiastic about his parish’s progress with Upon This Rock, citing his parishioners’ generosity of “time, talent, and treasure” as the real asset to the campaign. Last week alone, one family at Good Shepherd gave a $100,000 gift to the initiative. Fr. Young said of this sacrificial giving, “They realize that as they give of their resources that Our Lord will bless them a hundred fold! I see the fruit of their generosity every day I minister at Good Shepherd.” The parish is now at 109% of goal from 137 gifts totaling $562,729; Fr. Young plans to create a fund that will underwrite future capital projects. Moving forward, a second Commitment Weekend will be held this coming Saturday and Sunday.
Congratulations to Msgr. LiPuma, Fr. Young, and everyone involved with Upon This Rock at these parishes!
