In scripture, we are reminded of how Jesus praised a widow for her humble offertory of two copper coins to the temple treasury; in a similar way, Upon This Rock requires commitments from a diverse range of community members. Throughout the Diocese of Buffalo, parishioners from all walks of life are participating in the best way they can to strengthen the Church in Western New York.
At St. Louis in Buffalo, Msgr. Salvatore Manganello raised 41% of his parish’s goal. These significant contributions brought the parish to 123% of goal, totaling $1,179,255 overall. With its parish share, St. Louis will install a lift to go down to the parish hall as well as to enclose the side ramp of the church. Though the parish has not gone public with Upon This Rock, it will be setting a challenge goal to motivate congregants to participate in this endeavor.
Elsewhere in the Diocese, even more parishioners are getting involved with the campaign. In Alden last week, the Confirmation candidates at St. John the Baptist presented Bishop Malone with a check for $50.00 as a directed gift for Upon This Rock, specifically for the Mother Teresa Home. One student also pledged an additional gift of $10 a month through the end of this campaign (the proverbial “two copper coins,” if you will), in recognition of her making the Sacrament of Initiation.
