Arkship Countdown

I'm almost finished writing my new book, Arkship Obsidian, the first in a new science fiction series. I'm also writing a short prologue story called Arkship Countdown, which should be available in the next week or two. In advance of publication I thought I'd share the cover and see what you thought of it. Click the banner above to see a bigger version, and let me know what you think.

The Arkship series is set in the distant future, when the sun and all the planets have been destroyed, so the remnants of humanity live on vast arkships. It follows a character called Wynn who wakes up in an escape pod during a huge space battle, without any memory of his former life. Want a sneak peak? Here's the first two pages: Arkship Obsidian Page 1 PDF

The Word Residency - more free stories

Earlier this year I spent some time in The Word, a fantastic library in South Shields in the UK, where I was Writer in Residence. During my time there I produced two pieces of work, both inspired by the people I spoke to there. The first story - Follow That Ferry - is a fun children's story about a woman called Margaret and her fantastic handbag. The second - Would Have, Could Have - is a more reflective adult story about a woman coming to terms with her growing isolation in old age, and her regrets for the things she wished she'd done.

You can read both stories for free on The Word's website.

And if you want to know more about my time as Writer in Residence take a look at the YouTube videos I made while I was there.

That's it for this newsletter, thanks for your support - see you soon!

Best wishes
Niel
