Orwells Restaurant concludes a hugely successful month by becoming Oxfordshire’s only restaurant to hold 4 AA Rosettes

Henley foodie hotspot is one of just 39 UK restaurants with this prestigious accolade

Orwells is now ‘among the top restaurants in the UK where the cooking deserves national recognition’

Less than three weeks after it was awarded Restaurant of the Year in the Waitrose Good Food Guide 2017, Orwells Restaurant received yet another impressive honour at the AA Hospitality Awards last night. Chefs Ryan Simpson and Liam Trotman were awarded 4 AA Rosettes demonstrating that they ‘exhibit intense ambition, a passion for excellence, superb technical skills, and remarkable consistency’. They join the likes of The Hand & Flowers, Le Gavroche, Le Champignon Sauvage, Murano, Texture, Fera at Claridges and Restaurant Nathan Outlaw in the list of just 39 restaurants with 4 AA Rosettes.

The AA Restaurant Guide 2017 has placed Orwells amongst the UK’s top 52 restaurants. Given their ranking within The Waitrose Good Food Guide Top 50 UK Restaurants, it’s safe to say Ryan and Liam’s cooking has been recognised as some of the best in the country.

Orwells’ ethos is to serve nothing but the highest quality food with a focus on sustainability. Ingredients are sourced locally wherever possible and they even have their own small holding and apiary where most of their fruit, vegetables and honey are produced. This approach has earned them a three-star gold sustainability rating from the Sustainable Restaurant Association, ‘demonstrating an exceptional standard of sustainability’. This ethos will be enjoyed by many on Saturday 1st October at a pop-up Harvest Feast in Kirtlington Village Hall, organised by Feast with a Chef which aims to bring fine food to a wider audience in a relaxed and informal setting, in founder Clare Hargreaves’ words - ‘fine dining without the starch’.

Chef duo Ryan and Liam opened Orwells in 2010 having gained a Michelin star whilst working together at The Goose in Britwell Salome. Their combined experience also includes Winteringham Fields, Maison Troisgros, Bovey Castle, 60 Hope Street, Pierre Gagnaire, Guy Savoy and The Elephant. The Good Food Guide named Ryan ‘Up and Coming Chef of the Year’ in 2010. Soon after launching Orwells Restaurant in 2010 Ryan and Liam were acknowledged by all the major guides, including winning The Good Food Guide Reader Restaurant of the Year in 2012.

'If you're within a 100 miles of Henley-on-Thames, the sun is shining and you're at a loose-ish end, drop everything and go now' 'Orwells does assured, grown-up, imaginative modern British cooking'. 9/10 rating from The Daily Telegraph anonymous restaurant review 18th June 2016
