Dean’s Message

The end of Spring 2019 brought us closer to our students and highlighted their successes. Here are a few points of pride about our graduating students. Nearly 500 engineering and computer science students showcased their Senior Design projects. The event was attended by several industry partners for possible tech transfer of their creative projects. Two Senior Design teams participated in the Florida Intercollegiate Competition in Technological Innovation (FICTI) shark tank competition. The SWEET team, a water purification system, won third place. Several researchers also participated in eMerge Americas, a premier technology conference. One team displayed how one can hack into smart devices and another team showcased origami antennas. We made history at the Spring 2019 commencement when nine female CEC grads were honored as Worlds Ahead. We are very proud of our student accomplishments and look forward to a productive summer. Please read about these stories and more in this issue of the Bulletin.

FIU female engineering graduates are breaking barriers and changing lives. For the first time ever, FIU recognized nine Worlds Ahead female graduates in engineering who are at the cutting edge of their fields. Learn about these dynamic women by watching the video above.
Engineering Expo
The FIU Engineering Expo is the college’s premier community outreach event. Each year, more than 1,400 K-12 students from Miami-Dade and Broward County Schools visit the FIU Engineering Center to discover the endless possibilities of STEM. Check out the above video from this year’s Miami Vice themed expo.
Senior Design Showcase
The Senior Design Showcase is a culmination of all the courses engineering students are exposed to throughout their studies. The Spring 2019 event brought together more than 500 undergraduate students from different disciplines to showcase their final products as family, friends and industry affiliates came out to watch. Visit our Flickr Album to take a look at some of the highlights.
