Dean’s Message
We are pleased to share with you a few recent research awards received by our college and faculty. NASA has awarded FIU $3 million to address important challenges in exploring the "final frontier." To help train critical cybersecurity skills, the university has launched a cybersecurity apprenticeship program (Cyber-CAP) through a $2 million award from the U.S. Department of Labor. Additionally, FIU is collaborating with other universities to enable a faster and more secure internet through a $20 million grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF).

We congratulate Trina Fletcher, assistant professor of engineering and computing education, for her appointment to the EngineerGirl Steering Committee, a service initiative within the National Academy of Engineering (NAE). Our 2018-2019 Annual Report highlights the college's efforts through our impactful research, student success and industry collaborations. Recently, our students hosted the largest hackathon in Florida to build code and connections with tech giants. Our students are proving their skills by obtaining internships at multinational companies and government agencies such as the Department of Homeland Security and Citrix Systems. Read about this and more in this issue of the Bulletin.

We wish you and your loved ones a joyous start of the holiday season!
