Smith hires Steven Lynch to manage HD 49 race, raises $13,755 in April
‘Knights for Bernie’ hire adds to momentum in legislative race
ORLANDO, FL - On the heels a successful fundraising period and recently becoming the first House campaign in Orange (Democrat or Republican) to qualify by candidate petition, Carlos Guillermo Smith announced the hiring of UCF alumnus and ‘Knights for Bernie’ co-founder Steven Lynch to lead his campaign to win back the critical East Orlando swing seat for Florida Democrats. Smith reported $13,755 in fundraising for April, bringing his total fundraising haul to $93,030 to date.
‘Knights for Bernie’, a registered student organization at the University of Central Florida, is known as one of the strongest and most active college organizations supporting the Vermont U.S. Senator and presidential hopeful in the United States. The organization’s aggressive voter registration and voter turnout efforts, led in part by Lynch, helped achieve the highest precinct-level turnout during the Florida presidential preference primary in Central Florida. The UCF-based precinct 538 saw over 79% turnout, and is located within House District 49.
Steven Lynch offered the following statement:
“Carlos is without question THE candidate to represent working families and students in House District 49. I’m honored to join Carlos’s team and look forward to bringing even more grassroots progressive energy into his campaign to ensure we win back this seat in 2016.”
Smith offered the following statement:
“I’m so proud to have Steven Lynch joining our campaign at this time. Since day one, our campaign has adopted a progressive platform that among many things has focused on college affordability. That message has really resonated with working families and students like Steven, who have fueled the energy behind our campaign, and who will ultimately help us deliver a victory on election day.”
