Message from the lab director

Thank you for your interest in the Social Cognition Lab. Our research is only possible through the many people who volunteer their time to take part in our studies. To that end, I would like to take a moment to share more with you about some of our research.

You are likely receiving this update because you participated our lab's Attention, Thought, and Behaviour study earlier this year (March-June 2015). That study was part of an international research effort designed to better understand a psychological phenomenon called ego depletion. Ours was one of many international laboratories running an identical study in order to test the replicability of the ego depletion phenomenon. You may be aware of recent research highlighting the critical importance of replication in building cumulative knowledge in psychology. Replicating research like this is critical to advancing our understanding of human nature. You can read more about ego depletion and our early 2015 study via this link.

We currently have two studies underway in our laboratory, and a few more studies that will get underway in the summer (November 2015 or thereabouts). You can sign-up for the current studies by clicking the links in the Participate! section of this email or by contacting us at

We will have a lot more to share with you in 2016, so please stay with us. We promise to send updates only 2-3 times per year, but if you are not interested in receiving future updates, you can unsubscribe through the link below.

All the best,
Michael Philipp
