Helping You to Help Others
Tools to Optimise Mental Health

Resources Newsletter  - February 2020

Holding a staff session on mental health and wellbeing is a good way of sharing information and getting people together.
A well organised and well attended event can increase awareness and start to normalise the conversation around mental health.

It may be that you’re in a position where you can run a session like this with your team. Or if you think it’s something your manager could do, you may want to suggest some of these steps to them, click HERE.

This guide on stress management features sections on:

  • Symptoms of Stress;
  • Work Related Stress;
  • Seeking Help and Support;
  • Some Tools to Tackle Stress;
  • Mental Health at Work and the Law.

New animation for school staff to support pupils’ mental health

It offers a simple principle for school staff to remember when talking to a young person facing mental health issues; CARE: (Be) Curious; (Be) Approachable; Refer (when you need to); and (Show) Empathy.

Just 3 minutes long, this clip is appropriate for a staff training day, or team meeting.

The relationships and health  - both mental and physical - aspects of PSHE education will be compulsory in all schools from September 2020.

In June 2019, the Department for Education launched the final statutory guidance to accompany introduction of compulsory health education, relationships education and relationships and sex education (RSE) in 2020.
