Hi all.

We have had a massive month of tennis at Wilding Park that started with the Junior Spring Open (overcoming October snow), an ITF International junior tournament that featured Cruz Hewitt (Leighton Hewitt's son), Junior and Senior Interclub all underway, and we hosted the National Junior Teams Event for Under 12's and Under 14's.

November is another big tennis month with the Canterbury Open and the Primary & Intermediate Junior Championships running concurrently from November 11-13 at Wilding Park, the South Island Primary & Intermediate Individual Championships in Ashburton from November 19-21, the Junior Secondary Schools Individual Championships November 22-23, Tuesday Night Masters (30+) Interclub starting November 22, the Crombie Lockwood Tennis Canterbury Corporate Day Friday 25 November and a new event on the calendar this year gives juniors under the age of 14 the chance to compete on centre court at the ASB Classic.  Results and entry links for these events are all included below.

This year, Premier Interclub has been scheduled as much as possible at the clubs and includes three rounds of Men's and Women's matches being played on Friday nights.  The next Friday night matches are on November 18 at Burnside, Waimairi and Elmwood tennis clubs - please get along and support your teams!

A shout out to Cashmere Tennis Club who put on an awesome day of tennis at their 2nd Annual Big Day Out, this year raising funds for major court redevelopment.  Thanks for the invite, the tennis, the meal and the banter - great day.

Finally, keep an eye out next month for a couple of officials courses we plan to run for aspiring lines-people and umpires - quality officials of all ages are always in demand up and down the country so please jump on board if you are keen.

I hope your early season form is good, that your fitness level is better than mine! and I Iook forward to seeing you on or off-court soon.  Cheers.

Canterbury J3 ITF Tournament
Wilding Park recently hosted the ITF Junior J3 Tournament for players under the age of 18.

This was the first opportunity to welcome international players since our last ITF tournament pre COVID-19 in early 2020. Our local players benefitted from competition against the travelling players from Asia and Australia and the level of tennis throughout the week was high.

A highlight for many spectators and players during the week was the presence of former world number one and two-time Grand Slam champion Lleyton Hewitt.  Lleyton was here to watch his 13-year-old son Cruz, but also took the opportunity to hit some balls on our courts - a pretty cool sight!

Congratulations to Canterbury region players Duncan McCall and Harry Pugh for winning the Boys Doubles event and to Duncan for finishing runner-up in the Singles
