Farmers on 57th Harvest Weekly

Buckwheat & Barley Fall Cover Crop

Well here we are, at the end of our 20 week garden-fresh-veggie-eating marathon. Over a thousand volunteer hours poured in, approximately 2000 kg of uber-local veggies grown & distributed, 145 visitors hosted, and a new farm site mostly built & on track to do it all again starting Spring 2019.

If you are ready to sign up to do it all again next year, you can! CLICK HERE to continue your membership for the 2019 harvest season and to reserve your 2019 harvest share. Also, if you'd like to help shape next year's program or you'd just like to share your CSA experience with us, we'd love to hear it. CLICK HERE to fill out the end of season survey.

Thanks so much to you dear CSA members: you support this program, and urban farm, with your dollars & your bellies. It's been so lovely seeing so many of you these past 20 weeks. And thanks to the many hands that grew the produce this year & for the mountain of ideas contributed: Adrienne, Angeli, Audrey, Carol, Eva, Flora, Grace, Guilaine, Katelyn, Kathy, Jaxs, Joceline, Mark, Patti, Patrice, Rob & Taeko - you are all just so fantastic.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Heart, full.

Big farm love from your Farmers on 57th, Karen, Jess, our stellar field hand Jaxs, and our amazing volunteers

Daikon Radish just jumpin' outta the ground

So ya, for sure, green tomatoes aren't as tasty as when they're ripe. But as far as a veggie goes, the green tomato stands up. Here are some classic green tomato recipes:
Green Tomato Stew (Vegan)
Salsa Verde
Fried Green Tomatoes
Pickled Green Tomatoes (Quick)
Green Tomato Casserole

Long and white, popular in Japanese cuisine. These are best grown as a fall crop. Use as you would any smaller radish: shred it onto salad, slice it up and put it on buttered bread for a nice snack, chop it up and throw it in a stir fry. My hubbie Rob found this recipe last year for Daikon Patties which was yum. Cook up them greens!

An orange fleshed cousin of the turnip. Cube 'em & roast 'em. Cook up them greens too.
