March was a busy and fruitful month in our journey to South Africa. We took a break from the constant traveling of the last four months to focus on local meetings in Tallahassee and to invest time at our home church for the Easter season. It was a privilege to participate in Good Friday and Easter programs with our choir at First Baptist Tallahassee. To “sing and make melody” (Ephesians 5:19) together with our brothers and sisters in Christ, using music to amplify the core tenants of our faith, is a privilege indeed!
This Easter season was particularly meaningful for our family, as it marks one year since the Lord called us to South Africa (Good Friday 2015). As we look back over the last year since that pivotal time, we stand in awe of all that He has done; how He has guided our each and every step, as we trust for His provision. Now as we raise support full-time, amid all the travels and meetings, we are reminded that He gave His Son to provide for our ultimate need; how easy for Him to provide our material support! Romans 8:32 reads, “He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?” What an amazing truth! So we press on, knowing that we are secure in the gracious arms of our risen Savior! We are excited to update that as of the end of March, He has continued to increase our financial partners, so we are now at 30% of our monthly support!
We are also grateful for this month to give the kids a break from our Jeep for a while too. They are very flexible and well-behaved, but traveling is taxing on them. So they’ve enjoyed some much-needed time at home!
Speaking of home, many of you have been praying for our housing situation. We had been praying for a creative option for a home base in Tallahassee, one that was affordable for our current level of support. The Lord has consistently provided for us, usually in the most unexpected ways, and this case is no different. He has given us an additional side income stream to help current expenses so we were able to secure a new, less expensive, apartment in Tallahassee. So the last week of March, right after Easter, we moved apartments with the help of family and friends. It is amazing to watch how the Lord unfailingly provides for our needs, just as He promised (Matthew 5:25-34)!
As many of you know, we had the unique opportunity to attend a music sale at our undergraduate college that has recently closed. While we are still saddened by the closure, it was an amazing chance to purchase used music and instruments to help jump-start the Garden Route Academy of Fine Arts in Knysna! Many of you participated financially to help us with this project. Thank you! We were able to purchase inventory (pictures below!) that is not readily available in South Africa and is cost-prohibitive to ship when purchasing individually from the US or Europe. Since we are already going to ship a container of our belongings when our support-raising phase is complete, we can fill up the extra space with music and instruments! While our hearts’ desire is to be in Knysna even now, we know that we are here for a reason, and we believe that this event was one of those reasons. The Lord’s timing is indeed always perfect and He is always at work for our good (Romans 8:28)!
We are excited to be traveling again and look forward to a busy April! Below are some specific ways you can be praying for our family at this time.
