Wow, June has been quite a roller-coaster. After the thrill of reaching the 50% hurdle last month, we had a couple weeks with no new supporters confirmed and several schedule conflicts that prevented meetings from taking place. These were discouraging times. But during the midst of these times, we also had the privilege of working in VBS at our home church in Tallahassee. It was such a joy to see almost 400 kids have a blast learning about Jesus. The music especially has been a particular blessing. Catchy tunes yes, but also powerful and thoughtful lyrics. It is thrilling to hear our children, even little Chloe (yes, it is the cutest thing in the world), singing these phrases: “Jesus is the One who lights our way,” “I have decided to follow Jesus,” and “My hope is in the Lord. I will follow Him. He will never let me go.” There is something convicting when your own children sing back to you the encouragement and admonition you need most.
God has continued to bless the support-raising process. In June we added on another 3,700 miles driven, bringing our total to over 24,000 since November. We praise Him for continued safety and issue-free travelling. Over the last week we’ve had several new supporters come on board, bringing our total to 53%!
By far, the highlight of the month was the opportunity to travel to Dallas, TX for a class. Perspectives on the World Christian Movement is normally a 15-week class, but we took it as a one-week intensive. And intense it was! The phrase “being fed with a fire hose” doesn’t even come close to what we experienced. It was utterly life-changing. We learned more about God, His purpose, mankind, culture, and where we fit into the whole story than we could have imagined. This is not just for missionaries or church staff, but we’re convinced that any Christian would benefit from this class. We are so grateful for those who recommended this program to us; our finite perspective will be forever changed.
It was such a blessing to have our long-time babysitter come with us to Texas. Maddie was such a huge help, caring for Levi and Chloe while we were in class. We are so grateful for her and how she is part of our family. The Lord has something amazing in store for her; we’re just hoping its in South Africa someday!
We anticipate a full July, with a mix of travels and local meetings here at home in Tallahassee. We hope you’ll keep an eye out over the next few days, we are anticipating being able to make an important announcement!
