Boys' Varsity Basketball

Boys' Varsity Basketball is off to a good start. They traveled to Arlington, VA to play in the Wooten Tipoff. The guys played well, and came out on top against a very strong Riverdale Baptist team 51-72. David Penney ‘19 and Joel Kabimba ‘19 were interviewed about their college options by Prep Hoops. David, Joel and Kwaku Agyapong ‘20 were some of the tournament’s best players according to Prep Hoops. They represented Middleburg Academy well and so did the rest of the team.

On Tuesday, the Dragons traveled to Richmond to take on Millwood School. This was an important game for MA since we traveled down there twice last year and lost twice. This time the boys took care of business on the road with a 57- 99 point win. This marks a very good start to the season as they prepare for Shenandoah Valley Christian Academy on Friday at 7:30pm. This should be a very interesting one, given they are such a strong team in the past.

This week the Varsity Dragons will take on St. Anne's-Belfield (STAB) in Charlottesville, VA at 6:00pm, and The Carmel School at 6:30pm at home. They look forward to seeing you all there!

Girls' Varsity Basketball

On November 30th, the Middleburg Academy Girls' Varsity Basketball Team kicked off their season in the St. Stephen’s St. Agnes Tip Off Tournament. On Friday, the Dragons lost a hard fought game to Episcopal High School 53-37. Jade Roberts ‘20 had a team-high 20 points. The Lady Dragons rebounded on Saturday with a win against Oakcrest School 81-35. Leading the way were Jade Roberts ‘20 with 29 points and Lexiey Maynard ‘19 with 20 points. It was a total team effort with great team defense and every Lady Dragon scored in the game. The Lady Dragons finished 3rd and Jade Roberts ‘20 was named to the All Tournament Team.

On Dec 4, the Lady Dragons defeated Madeira School 61-59 in their first game of the regular season. It was a tight contest that went back and forth. Lexiey Maynard ‘19 hit two big free throws with 8 seconds left to put MA up by two points. Lexiey Maynard ‘19 ended with 24 points, Skye Belony-Sem ‘21 with 10 and Hayley Morrison ‘22 with 4 points.  Autumn Young ‘22 and Cassie McDonald ‘23 both made key defensive plays in the second half.

Varsity Equestrian

Did you know that winter is a great time to learn to ride? Not only that, but Middleburg Academy Equestrian is now located just five minutes from school, and never mind about bad weather - we have an indoor riding arena!

If you are a rider thinking about joining the equestrian team, now is the time - we are just starting to compete so you can still get your five competitions in and have a chance at qualifying for Regionals.

In January and February we are offering a special 'Learn to Ride' package. In this 7 week program you will learn how to handle a horse, how to groom and tack them, and fundamentals of riding (extra charges apply).

To ride on the team or to join the Learn to Ride program, contact Coach Lee by email  at jlee@middleburgacademy.org or at 540-272-1350.

The team has been working hard and are looking very accomplished. Their first show was this past Sunday at Century Manor in Nokesville--results to come in Friday's issue!

Varsity Swimming

The Middleburg Academy Varsity Swim Team recently started practicing after school at the Round Hill Indoor Aquatic Center. They're hard at work learning and practicing their strokes to get ready for their first swim meet at Fredericksburg Academy on Friday, January 11th.
