THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE ISSUE
How to Eat an Elephant, One Atomic Concept at a Time ↴
In this amazing essay, Kevin Kwok introduces a new lens to generate growth in product-based ecosystems: finding the right atomic concepts looks a lot like changing the zooming scale on a certain ecosystem of interactions until you do not resonate with the right "jobs to be done".
Another Ben Evans presentation ↴
Ben Evans is here with another of his mind setting presentations: "The Great Unbundling" AND a video explainer. Time to sit down and listen to a compelling overview of where we are with tech and business and offers a good starting point for strategizing in 2021.
James Currier explains the framework behind virality ↴
I guess we will be back to this essay by James Currier, again and again: it provides such a neat and synthetic framework to design for virality! You truly cannot miss it.
Messari 10 Crypto theses for 2021 commented ↴
"If capitalism is all about creative destruction, then DeFi capitalism is all about rentier destruction. A first-mover network advantage no longer leads to a monopoly, but a temporary advantage that can be maintained only with legitimate commitments to community governance and fair (and early) stakeholder alignment." A great recap of recently released Messari's Crypto Theses: a must-read
Notes on the Product to Platform transition ↴
In this initial post about the transition from products to platforms, the team at Platform Chronicles doesn't really add much to the conversation (especially if you've been following Casey Winters thinking on this and our latest essay on the topic but good to keep an eye on it for coming weeks. An, in any case, a refresher is always good.
CLASSIC READINGS (2015)
Geoffrey Moore on  the Evolving Nature of the Firm ↴
It was in 2015 when the legend of innovation and management Geoffrey Moore of Crossing the Chasm's fame wrote a seminal paper on how the nature of the firm is being transformed by the Internet. It's fairly incredible how this piece ages so well and it's still central to the work we're doing between Platforms and EEEOs.

Our Latest Episode: Control and Coherence in the New Strategy Playbook  ↴
Whether it’s from external events such as Covid-19 or a market crash, Rita Gunther McGrath points out that inflection points are inevitable for any organization. The key is to not remain complacent, but to keep moving, innovate and learn what the new strategy playbook looks like in a non-linear world. She also suggests that we may have been “sleepwalking” our way into complexity and that we’re now starting to see the consequences.

Stay tuned for the upcoming episodes with:

The Machine that makes the Machine
Related to the podcast above, a good complement is Benedict Evans and Toni Cowan Brown discussing Amazon - the "machine that makes the machine" in the week of Bezos stepping down.
Regulatory Risk and Platform Strategy ↴
In this video, the Platform Strategy Institute hosts an expert-view conversation to examine existing and potential regulatory frameworks around issues such as gatekeeper platforms, anti-competitive behavior, the role of data in platform fairness.
Learning in networks ↴
Beyond Learning with Harold Jarche is a good peek into the evolving role, processes and approaches to learning in a world of overlapped and continuous communities of practice and mastery.
Learning in networks ↴
In this episode of Futurized Gabriel Luna-Ostaseski speaks about the next generation marketplaces presenting the experience of Braintrust an evolution of both the firm AND the marketplace making the case that this is the future.
Relational Ecology and re-entangling design ↴
A precious talk by design legend John Thackara on Relational Ecology and Design touches upon the topic of re-entanglement of the firm that has been a crucial part of our new foundations' research. Still work to do to make a compelling case for this process, although pieces are getting together.
