Come, mad spring, and give time its dancing shoes.
There is much to come and much to do.
You are the results, the hopes anew.

This is not a series, this is spring.

NEW FROM PETER MILLER BOOKS
Mattina Bread Box, new from Alessi.
13"x8"x51/2", steel with epoxy color, cutting board in bamboo wood, $142.

A breadbox and a cutting board, simple and subtle as can be. No wires or plugs, deep and smart. To give the bread its place, with a touch of air to breath but stay fresh. Room for crackers, room for biscuits. Bringing some sense, bringing some color, bringing some space.

Holbein Artists' Colored Pencil Set
Set of 3: $12 / Set of 12 (Design, Basic, or Pastel): $50 / Set of 24: $100 / Set of 36: $150

High pigment, 3.8mm oil-based core with wax and fat, 7.8mm barrel, a very famous color pencil and a legend for its smoothness, mixing and true color. I have always wanted to carry the Holbein pencil but it was not available. The Holbein notepads, ever a favorite and in stock, were as close as I could get.

But now we have them. In stock. There are even some sets of 3 pencils, a sampler, for $12 on hand. You can find thousands of reviews, they are all to a legend of a colored pencil.

The best new books, coming from all directions:
a+u 21:03, Special Issue - Alvar Aalto Houses: Materials and Details.
Paperback, $45. (Copies are due in late April - please pre-order, we can ship or save for you.)

It was the intent of the editors to make this volume a tribute to Aalto, and to his houses - Aalto considered each house an opportunity to make a good showing. And this volume is itself a very good showing. Sirkkaliisa and Jari Jetsonen have revisited each house, to focus literally on material and detail, and to open the perception of each residence, from 1924 to 1972. The best of design books are always an optimism - you are pleased at the first moment. This is one of those.
Carlo Scarpa by Robert McCarter.
Phaidon, new edition. $60.

This was always the best monograph to Scarpa, comprehensive and wise to the genius of the Venetian master, Scarpa.. It has been out of print  and now correctly has returned. It is the standard.

"The town of Vicenza opens and closes the parabola of Scarpa's existence in ideal terms."
Carlo Scarpa: Beyond Matter by Lorenzo Pennati.
Cloth, $55.

There will be a Scarpa Foundation and this title will be its declaration. The first six pages of the book are wordless, only the texture and detail, of walls and certain connections, in full color, in light and shadow. That is his architectural alphabet.

This is the most passionate of Scarpa titles, with new and elegant photos of the greatest projects, the Castelvecchio, Gavina, Olivetti, Stampalia, Brion Vega -

"It is the work I visit most willingly" Carlo Scarpa. It visits the projects in full color and adds the context and comments of Scarpa.

All titles available at the shop or to ship.
