GWREF Grant Funding Opportunity

The Ground Water Research & Education Foundation is now accepting applications for its consideration, to provide grant funding to cover travel expenses for qualified applicants to participate in the Sept. 11-14, 2016, State Water Sustainability Planning Summit: The Groundwater Connection. The event will take place in Orlando, Florida, in conjunction with the Ground Water Protection Council’s Annual Forum and National Rural Water Association’s WaterPro conference.

"Long-range planning is critical for assuring efficient conjunctive use of surface and groundwater resources without undue reliance on available surface or groundwater," said Ben Grunewald, GWREF managing director. "While the Ground Water Protection Council has no position regarding a ‘right way’ to plan for water sustainability in the country, our member state agencies have growing concerns regarding the increasingly competitive demand for all water resources. We believe that sharing experiences will create avenues to improve water sustainability planning."

StatesFirst National Gas Storage Workgroup Seeks Qualified Professional Volunteers

The States First National Gas Storage (NGS) workgroup is seeking technical experts from the states, academia, industry, and NGOs to participate in a working subgroup.

After a working meeting at the Interstate Oil & Gas Compact Commission (IOGCC) last month in Denver, the NGS workgroup led by states from across the country, the IOGCC and GWPC has developed a draft outline of elements to develop a guidance document to assist state agencies regarding natural gas storage facilities and state regulations.

These elements have been placed under four working subgroups to gather pertinent information and clearly express technical guidelines for conservative operating procedures. The subgroups include Permitting, Construction and Integrity, Operations and Closure

Annual Forum Call for Abstracts Deadline Extended

The GWPC is still seeking abstracts for this year's Annual Forum, State Water Sustainability Planning: The Groundwater Connection, Sept. 11-14, 2016, in Orlando.

The conference, which is co-located with the National Rural Water Association's WaterPro Conference, will offer special focus state water planning sessions as well as sessions covering subjects traditionally covered at the GWPC Annual Forum in the areas of water sustainability, water quality, and water/energy.
