Aloha Hawaii Sanders supporters!
This message focuses on Oahu, but parts of it are relevant for organizing in the other counties as well.
Tomorrow, after months of campaigning, the first votes will be cast in the Democratic presidential race. The Iowa polls show a virtual tie, so it all gets down to whose supporters show up to caucus.
The Iowa voting means more Hawaii residents will start thinking about the presidential race and how to vote in Hawaii. Supporters on Oahu will have an opportunity Monday, tomorrow, to help build support for Sanders on our island.
WHAT: SIGNWAVING FOR BERNIE SANDERS
WHERE: UNIVERSITY AVE, Above Dole Ave.
WHEN: MONDAY, FEB 1, 3-6 pm
Come and join us.
Put your pro-Bernie energy into helping the Sanders Hawaii campaign move to the next level. Meet fellow Sanders supporters, talk about the news out of Iowa, help build awareness of the upcoming Hawaii Caucus meetings on March 26th.
The Hawaii Sanders campaign is shifting to a new, higher level. The next stage is to build regional and state house district-level organizing teams. This will involve sign waving, tabling, leafleting and holding local meetings aimed at specific communities.
The UH Students for Sanders group offered to kick-off this shift on Oahu by planning this sign waving aimed at commuters returning to their homes in Manoa, perhaps listening to the news on their radio and thinking about the Democratic caucus in Iowa. When they see us, they will turn their thinking to Hawaii.
On Oahu, we will soon be sign waving on the major roads as people are commuting. We aim to make those a regular event for the 8 weeks remaining.
So we are hoping a good turnout on Monday. Please come if you can. There will be drinks and good cheer in a nearby bar afterwards!
We will be forming teams for each part of the island. By early March, we will have a team in each House district in the state. If you can help in a small way (or in a big way), please contact us. We need signwavers, data entry volunteers, graphic artists to help with layout of flyers, signs, phonebanking. We will need election monitors for every meeting on March 26th.
If you have not yet done so,
please go to the HawaiiForBernie.com
website and sign up a supporter in the Hawaii Sanders campaign. We are organizing supporters by your House District and precinct, so we will need your residential address to plug you in and help organizers in your district share information about your specific voting place.
NOTE: the locations of the March 26th Presidential Preference Polls have not yet been finalized by the Democratic Party, but should be released within days.
To find your specific district and precinct, use our handy online tool, the Bern Advisory. It also helps explain the process, from the Presidential Preference Poll, to the precinct organizational meeting, to the state convention:
If you want to help organizing in your surrounding area, or volunteer to help take on some of the tasks we need help on, please email us at HawaiiForBernie@gmail.com
If you wish to contact Bernie organizers on other islands, also email us.
