This is a direct invitation to you that repeats a general invitation that you may have already seen on various Facebook pages in the last few days, including Hawaii for Bernie Sanders 2016.

There have been a lot of eager volunteers, each working in their own creative ways to promote Bernie Sanders here in Hawaii. We think it is time to take it to the next level and hope you can join us with your ideas, energy, and questions.

This gathering is being called by several people who are members of the Progressive Democrats of Hawaii Steering Committee, who are actively serving in leadership positions in the Democratic Party of Hawaii, and who have experience in Democratic Party Presidential Preference Polls.

But the meeting belongs to all those who can attend. We are just taking the initiative to reserve a room to get the ball rolling.

There will soon be an official campaign in Hawaii, so let's pull together so there is an existing network in place when they arrive!

We believe it is essential to coordinate the grassroots efforts for Bernie Sanders here on Oahu. We need to help each other, inform each other, and make sure we aren't going in different directions. We emphasize that we envision all our efforts as being collaborative, rather than top-down; we have a lot to learn from one another.

Here's what we're already talking about:

  1. The meeting on Tuesday evening, January 5, 2016, where we'll help everyone get to know everyone else and see what we can collectively decide to do, leading up to the critical day -- the Presidential Preference Poll on Saturday, March 26, 2016.
  2. March as a Bernie Sanders for President contingent in the Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade on Monday, January 18, 2016. Assemble at 8am at the Magic Island parking lot at Ala Moana Beach Park, walk through Waikiki to Kapiolani Park, where we will have a kiosk for Sanders.
  3. Participate in the Legislature's Opening Day festivities on Wednesday, January 20, 2016, at the State Capitol. We plan to have a presence, though the details are still being worked out.
Please join us. We have less than three months before polling day here in Hawaii!

If you have any questions, or things you think should be on the agenda at the meeting, please email Alan Burdick at, or call him at (808) 486-1018.

Together we can make this happen! We look forward to seeing you on Tuesday, January 5th.
