Parents and Scouts,
Because of the pandemic, we were unable to have a Court of Honor in June, and we are now unable to have our usual fall Court. Nevertheless, we did run a Board of Review for ranks and Eagle-required merit badges a couple of weeks ago. Now that the dust has settled, I can report the results.
First, I had hoped to introduce a new Assistant Scoutmaster at one of these Courts but, alas, that didn’t happen. So I’d like to welcome Ann Matise to our ranks. She and husband John took over the role of Recruitment Chairs this year, a task made extremely daunting by the facts that no Cub packs or other groups have been meeting and that we've been unable to run our usual Guest Night meetings to introduce boys to the troop. Despite this, they have been doing an amazing job of communicating with prospective families. Ann is also helping teach a merit badge and contributing ideas for the troop program. It is truly a pleasure to welcome her to our team of Assistant Scoutmasters.
Despite our lack of physical meetings, many Scouts have earned ranks and merit badges online since June. Special thanks to the parents who have been running classes to support these boys. I’m pleased to report that this fall our Scouts have earned:
• 36 Eagle-required merit badges
• 33 non-Eagle required merit badges
• 11 ranks
Special congratulations to Jack Zemke, who has earned our highest rank, Eagle Scout.
Parents, please encourage your Scouts to continue joining our weekly troop and patrol meetings and also to communicate with his rank advisor about passing requirements for his next rank. And please let me know if you would like to get more involved in the troop program.
Thanks, as always, for your support.
Steve Marcy
