New Midwest Initiative Makes It Easier to Convert to Alt Fuels

Advanced VTech, AGA Systems, Ozinga Energy, and STAG USA are teaming up to launch the Midwest Alternative Fuel Initiative.

The partnership, which will be supported by Fifth-Third Bank, will help businesses and municipalities in the Chicago area, southern Wisconsin and northern Indiana develop alternative fuels programs.

The Midwest Alternative Fuel Initiative will offer a complete “solution-based” alternative-fuels program, tailored to the needs of a particular municipality or business, addressing emission reduction, conversion cost, access to fuel, service, maintenance, financing, and technology.

The new program also is meant to increase awareness for the funding and incentive programs made available through the Chicago Area, Wisconsin, and South Shore (Northern Indiana) Clean Cities coalitions.

Participants will be in position to not only dramatically reduce tailpipe emissions by 20 to 40 percent, but also fuel their fleets at prices lower than 50 cents per gasoline gallon equivalent (GGE), net of the current Federal rebate if you compress your own natural gas.

Certified systems are readily available for many late model Ford and GM truck, SUV and car platforms that are commonly used by municipal, law enforcement, and delivery and service businesses.  Risk-free trials are available, and Advanced VTech offers grant application assistance, where available.

Working with the Chicago Area, Wisconsin, and South Shore Clean Cities’ coalitions, the Midwest Alternative Fuel Initiative makes it easier than ever to utilize domestic fuel while lowering costs and minimizing carbon emissions.

Nissan Supports Clean Cities

Nissan recently teamed up with Chicago Area Clean Cities as an annual sponsor of the coalition. Nissan was a pioneer in bringing electric vehicles (EVs) to the mass market with the Nissan LEAF. Nissan is again leading the charge with the new 2016 LEAF, featuring an available 30 kWh battery that provides an EPA-estimated best-in-class range of 107 miles – a 27-percent increase over the previous 24 kWH battery. With more than 185,000 current Nissan LEAF owners around the world, it's clear that Nissan LEAF gives drivers the space and range to meet everyday needs; an exceptional value proposition due to zero spending on gas, lower operating and maintenance costs; and a starting price after tax incentives comparable to a similarly sized gas-powered car. To learn more about the LEAF, click here. Nissan is offering an $8,000 fleet incentive for the 2015 and 2016 LEAF electric vehicles. This incentive is available to commercial and government fleets and can be combined with federal and state rebates. To request Fleet Program Benefits or to find out more about this fleet incentive offer, visit www.NissanCommercialVehicles.com/fleet.

Register Today for the Midwest's Largest Green Transportation Expo

The Lake Michigan Consortium – a collaborative effort between the Chicago Area, Wisconsin and South Shore (Northern Indiana) Clean Cities coalitions – will host the 5th annual Green Drive$ Conference and Expo at Northern Illinois University’s Conference Center in Naperville on Thursday, May 19.

“As one of the largest events of its kind in the Midwest, Green Drive$ is a great opportunity to network, and to learn about new technologies, alternative fuels, charging and fueling infrastructure, and funding and incentives,” said John Walton, vice chairman of Chicago Area Clean Cities.

Green Drive$ will showcase fuel-saving and carbon-reducing technologies for commercial, industrial and consumer use. It also will shine the spotlight on several private and public fleets in the tri-state region that operate their vehicles on clean-burning fuels. Attendees will learn of first-hand experiences from fleets currently using natural gas, propane, electric vehicles, and other petroleum-reduction strategies.

Speakers from Fleet Owner magazine, automakers, shipping and logistics companies, and suppliers and vendors will address topics covering advanced-vehicle technologies and alternative fuels. More than two-dozen green vehicles will be showcased. Members of the three coalitions will offer updates on financing projects and funding opportunities to make clean energy even more affordable.

The NIU Conference Center is located at 1120 East Diehl Road, Naperville, IL 60563. Click HERE to register for tickets and click HERE to sponsor the event.
