Hi <<First Name>>!
Happy Thanksgiving! I hope you enjoy a wonderful time with family and friends this week. Here’s the latest GUW Minute--a tiny newsletter from me that only takes a minute to read.
WORLD TRAVELS
I recently returned from a long-planned trip to Turkey. It’s a beautiful country and we had a great time. But as I listened to our tour guides and learned about its extensive and tumultuous history, I couldn’t help but be struck by how much violence humanity has endured over thousands of years—all in the name of politics, religion, power, and greed. It seems like we just can’t stop fighting over things. And sure enough, only days after we returned home a bomb exploded in Istanbul on a street we walked dozens of times. The senseless death continues.
Our violent world is one reason why your involvement with Give Us Wings is so important. I believe that the only way to reduce war and conflict is to really understand each other. When you sponsor a family or support our programming, you’re learning about someone who is quite different from you and allowing them to learn about you as well. It’s one little chink in the armor of distrust, fear, and arrogance that humans so often wrap themselves in. Thank you for working toward a more peaceful world…in addition to offering hope and opportunity to Ugandan families!
Speaking of Uganda, I’m excited to be departing for Tororo on Nov. 25 to meet our staff and see all of our work first-hand. Stay tuned for email updates and photos from my trip!
