The Voice of Volunteering
February 2017

CEO's Message

Under the new Strong and Resilient Communities grants program the Federal Government is intending to fundamentally change its funding criteria to assist only project-based programs. This means volunteering support services will no longer be eligible for funding for on-going activities such as the volunteer management program.
Last week I joined the heads of the nation's peak volunteering bodies in Canberra to kick start an awareness campaign about how this funding plan could crush the place-based volunteering bodies that are the back bone of our volunteering communities.
The Minister for Social Services, Christian Porter MP, and Shadow Assistant Minister for Families and Social Services Louise Pratt spoke at the event, which was also attended by other politicians and representatives of volunteer support services from around the country.
We called on the Government to recognise the value of volunteer management and I will keep you informed of the progress of this campaign.

I am pleased to announce the Volunteering NSW 2017 State Conference will take place on Sydney Harbour at Doltone House, Darling Island Wharf  on Wednesday June 7, with keynote speaker Tobi Johnson.
Book before April 30 to take advantage of Early Bird pricing.

The Conference theme is Future Proofing Volunteering in NSW. Anyone interested in presenting should submit a Conference Abstract exploring one of the following:
* leadership and stewardship of volunteering
* innovation and collaboration and
* valuing and repositioning volunteering
See the information sheet, for more details.

Tobi Johnson  is a renowned thought leader and skilled volunteering advocate: She is also the co-author of an annual state of volunteer management report that surveys volunteer managers across 19 countries. I know Tobi will offer insights that will challenge and inspire our discussions on the day and beyond.
The calendar for March includes the Taronga Zoo networking opportunity and two training seminars - see below for details.

I look forward to seeing you at one of our upcoming events and on June 7 at the conference.
