Harold Koon, a long-time resident of the Mazyck-Wraggborough/Garden District was an indomitable volunteer for the city of Charleston and his neighborhood.  His leadership and ability to create a sense of pride for his neighbors was outstanding.  Mayor Joseph P. Riley, Jr. established this award in 1998 to perpetuate the energy, dedication and selflessness of his example.Seventeen citizens of Charleston have received this award. Hollis Mays from the Lakeside neighborhood received the 2016 Harold Koon Volunteer Award and was honored before City Council.

Nominations for the 2017 Harold Koon Award for Excellence in Volunteer Service will be accepted through November 30, 2016.
