There have been a number of recent complaints regarding golf cart usage on the streets in the city. This is to serve as a reminder that all golf carts that are driven on the public right of way are to be registered with South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles. The owner of the golf cart will need to provide proof of ownership, proof of liability insurance and pay a $5.00 fee in order to receive the permit that is to be affixed to the cart. 

Below is a breakdown of the state regulations regarding golf carts and Low Speed Vehicles. This is not a recent change in the law, and officers can write citations for violations of these statutes now. CPD hopes to bring everyone up to code prior to any additional enforcement.
