I’m sure you got a lot of emails today.
How many made you smile?
How many made you feel good?
If you’re like me, not many.

How many annoyed you... the kind where someone is only contacting you because they want something from you?

Your time?
Your money?
Your attention?

How many were from newsletter lists you subscribed to but don’t want to read any more?

Or maybe (more likely), you didn’t subscribe but somehow, they got your email.

Well, I don’t want anything from you.

Except, that is, to put a smile on your face.

So, if this isn’t doing it for you, please unsubscribe.*

It’s ok. Especially if we’re friends in some other context... We will still be friends. Really.

Ok... Now that all those folks have left…

I was hanging out with Stephen Kellogg, who I’m fortunate enough to be opening up for this Spring.

If you haven’t heard of him, check out this great review of his record in Rolling Stone.

I’ve been on a crazy, fun, challenging journey as a musical artist, and this tour is my next step. We’ll be in twenty different cities across the country in March and April.

Stephen was giving me some background on all the venues we’ll be performing at, as well as some advice on how to connect with his audience.

I’m excited (or nerv-cited, as my kids say) to open for such an established artist, and play in front of strangers who will hear our songs for the first time.

You will be hearing from me a bunch in the coming months. We have made a new record that I’m really proud of. It’s called ‘Dissolve’, and it has 13 songs that I love.

I hope you get to hear it. There are a lot of heartfelt songs on ‘Dissolve,’ and if you’ve made it this far, I’m pretty sure some of them will resonate with you.

But if it doesn’t form a connection with you… If it doesn’t make you smile? You have my enthusiastic support to hit ‘unsubscribe.’

Thanks for listening!

*Back when I was running a song circle in NYC I learned that one of our regular members (whose singing I loved) had just had a show.

I asked her why I didn’t get an email about it.

She said she had taken all of her friends off her music email list, since she wanted to figure out if she was good enough to play to only strangers.

I thought that was a bit extreme, but I understood.

I guess this is my (much softer) version of what she did!

Check out "Another World’ from our February Joe’s Pub show, featuring a fiddle-off between Katie and Martha.

I got to spend some time in Brazil with family last week.
Iguazu Falls looks like a CGI alien landscape. Surreal!
I made a couple of recordings of the falls and hope to use them for the “Dissolve” lyric video.
That’s my son and his new friend.
They say it’s good luck when a butterfly lands on your head.
I found a Steinway at a piano bar in the mountain town of Gramado and took over for part of the evening. One of the Brazilian woman in the audience gave me a hug and told me I played with tesão.

I blushed when I found out what it meant.
