Please join us in prayer today for those in the path of Hurricane Harvey. Many will be displaced from their homes and likely lose possessions/property. May God's grace lead them through this storm.
In addition to praying, our church can help in a couple different ways. The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) is already in place to help those hurt and displaced by this storm. The UMCOR folks are highly trained and very effective in these situations. If you'd like to donate financially to their work, you can do so directly at their website www.umcor.org. Also, you can bring a designated gift with you to worship this Sunday and we will make sure it gets there. Also, UMCOR will need several cleaning kits to hand out for free to people who are dealing with the aftermath of the storm. These kits are inexpensive and easy to put together--link: http://www.umcor.org/…/Relief-S…/Relief-Supply-Kits/Cleaning.
Normally, we would gather as a church to put these supplies together, but with the short notice, I'd like to ask you to consider buying the supplies and putting the kit together at home with your family. Bring any finished kits to worship this Sunday, and we will get them to UMCOR.
Finally, while we cannot help a ton in this area, I have offered our church house/office space as relief housing for a displaced family should anyone need it. If we are contacted about housing a family, I will likely call upon the church to gather any items needed--likely towels, food, bedding, inflatable mattresses, etc. Again, this may not happen, but we are making our church house available should anyone need it.
