ITW David Speer Academy Students Participate in STEM Career Fair

High school students getting jump start on careers in opportunity-filled STEM fields
CHICAGO, IL – Today, ITW David Speer Academy sophomores and juniors participated in a STEM Career Fair held on campus. Becca Holland, Speer Academy’s internship coordinator organized the event and explained that “We have STEM professionals from companies such as Illinois Tool Works, Wheeler Kearns Architects, McMaster Carr, the Art Institute and more serving on panels, giving our students the opportunity to ask questions about different careers.”
Jordan Kruger, Assistant Principal at Speer Academy, added, “At Speer, sophomore year is about career exposure and education. We really want to make sure students know about different careers, and the Career Fair is a great way to get them started.” During their sophomore year at Speer, students choose a major and take elective courses focused on that field during their junior and senior years.
Sophomore Isiah Gonzalez is in the process of deciding his major. “I attended the information technology and animal science panels today. The career fair has opened up a wider perspective to many careers I didn’t know about.”
“My major is computer science, so I attended the software engineering and scientific research panels today,” shared junior Olayinka Adekola, “For me, a big thing is the impact they have on society, so I’ve been asking that question, trying to understand how they contribute and affect people.”
Gonzalez added, “Thank you to the professionals who came out, for thinking about the younger generation and our success.”
