Spring Clean Your Standing Rules and Bylaws

By Kim Vatale, Parliamentarian

This is the time of year for resolutions and spring cleaning.  While you’re at it, don’t forget about your PTA’s Standing Rules and Bylaws. All PTAs must review and submit their bylaws and standing rules to Texas PTA every five years. Even if your documents are current, you may still want to review them to make sure the needs of your PTA are being met.

Consider the events you’ve had already this year.  Were there times that your PTA encountered some delays or “red tape” because the standing rules no longer served your needs? Form a committee of experienced members and begin a review of your documents. Make sure you follow Texas PTA guidelines and use the bylaws template available on-line.

Once your changes have been approved by your local PTA membership, you must submit them to Texas PTA to be stamped and approved before the new documents become effective. The world is an ever-changing place and your local PTA is no different. Keeping your standing rules and bylaws up-to-date and relevant will enable your group to function efficiently and effectively throughout the year.

Council Board Nomination Time

ALL WISD PTA members are invited to declare their interest in serving on the WISD Council of PTAs Executive Board.
The Nominating Committee will slate individuals for the Officer positions. After their election, the newly elected officers will appoint the Standing Committee Chairs and Special Committee Chairs.

Deadline to submit interest is February 19th.

From the President

by Heidi PeCoy, President

Wylie ISD Council of PTAs is excited to announce that we have helped sponsor a new tool to help with the safety of the students and schools in our community. Tip 411 was launched in January by Wylie ISD administration.

All parents, students or concern citizens now have the ability to report any criminal activity or suspicious behavior anonymously via the application. There are two keywords that can be used and are set up by feeder pattern.Wylie High is PIRATETIP and Wylie East is RAIDERTIP.
