What's New?

Partnership, Designation, and Hiring News

We’re happy to share the latest news with our MetaPhase friends and colleagues!

Transitioning to a new administration with new priorities certainly creates some uncertainty.  That said, if one thing is true in Federal Consulting, it’s that change is good.  New proposed changes require agencies to relook and re-justify many of their marquee programs.  MetaPhase has been proactive in working with its clients, especially those in the international development sector, to prepare for what will be the new normal.  Changes that do get enacted will require planning, executing, migrating, reconciling, training, and more.  The fear and uncertainty of change may be outweighed by the new opportunities that it creates.

This quarter, we’ve expanded our support for and partnership with CGI.  We also began supporting another multi-billion dollar large business, CH2M, on an Engineering and Knowledge Management program.  We welcomed 2 new hires in March and still have a handful of open reqs for PMO, EA, and Portfolio Management staff, so please keep your resumes and referrals coming!

In addition to becoming an Amazon Web Services (AWS) Partner, the MetaPhase team has also begun supporting a software development effort on Microsoft Azure’s Platform as a Service (PaaS) offering.  Azure is a hot new platform and significant competitor to AWS in the Federal space.  We’re excited to expand our capabilities in both of these cloud service offerings.

MetaPhase has received its certification as a minority-owned, small business under the Small, Women and Minority-Owned (SWaM) certification program in the Commonwealth of Virginia.  The SWaM certification program is administered by the Virginia Department of Minority Business Enterprise (DMBE), which promotes access to the Commonwealth of Virginia’s contracting opportunities and ensures fairness in the procurement process. This certification allows MetaPhase Consulting to be recognized as a minority-owned, small business within its state of incorporation and to continue to work with customers to identify and achieve strategic objectives through innovative process, technology and management solutions.

Project Spotlight: TSA Associates Program
The MetaPhase team has been supporting TSA (Transportation Security Administration) since 2014 on a large scale training and workforce development program.  This program offers free college courses to TSA Officers at the airports in an effort to improve skills and reduce attrition.

MetaPhase and its partners led the charge to transition the program from a disparate group of 30+ college partners to two acclaimed online university partners.  This has led to dramatic operational cost reductions while expanding the reach of the program to thousands of additional TSA officers.  Below is an infographic that our team developed to illustrate the transition.

Engage in: Knowledge Sharing
Promoting an Environment of Organic Knowledge Curation and Sharing

You follow your trainer’s playlist for some tunes to get you pumped in the gym. You follow your best friend’s playlist to stay on top of their growing 90s hip hop collection.  Why not follow your colleague’s knowledge playlist to see what learning opportunities are coming up to stay on top of your professional game?

Enter the knowledge playlist, a curated collection of online resources, books, webinars, meetups and more dedicated to specific subject areas of interest to your organization.  The playlists were designed by MetaPhase Director Jessica Bantom as a low-cost alternative to expensive formal training and to promote an environment of knowledge sharing within an organization.

Say you have an in-house data analytics pro.  That person is likely to be plugged into several relevant resources that others would have to dig around to find, unnecessarily wasting valuable time rediscovering the gems their colleague has already unearthed.  Knowledge playlists serve as a repository for those valuable resources, which can be shared peer-to-peer to encourage growth and participation.  And the best thing?  This sharing can happen with minimal or no cost, and employees can be empowered to explore new areas of interest without having to rely solely on expensive conferences and months-long certification programs.

MetaPhase has implemented the use of Knowledge Playlists within our organization, and we’re encouraged as we watch our resources expand. Interested in learning more?  Check out this informative summary on SlideShare.

FACETS Holiday Event
Since 2015, we have partnered with FACETS, a non-profit that is dedicated to opening doors by helping parents, their children and individuals who suffer the effects of poverty in Fairfax County.  On December 19, we participated in our second annual Sibling Shop, an event that provides children from low-income families an opportunity to shop among donated gifts for a present for their siblings during the holiday season.  We contributed snack items, crafts, and wrapping supplies but the smiles we got back in return while helping the kids choose and wrap gifts were invaluable. What a great way to celebrate the holidays!
Our Military Kids
MetaPhase has formed a new relationship with Our Military Kids, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that supports children, ages 5-12th grade, of deployed National Guard and Reserve service members and children of wounded warriors from all service branches.  On April 20, we will be attending Salute to Our Stars for an evening of dinner, conversation, and entertainment supporting Our Military Kids. We would love to see your face in the place.  Check out their website for more information:

Out and About: Local Events
A little bit business and a little bit pleasure - MetaPhase has been making moves!

MetaPhase Caps Outing
Team MetaPhase attended the Washington Capitals game on Thursday, March 2 at the Verizon Center, as they faced off against the New Jersey Devils.  After some pre-game food and drinks at Bar Deco, we got to witness the Capitals win their franchise-record 14th consecutive game in D.C. 1-0, thanks to Holtby's eighth shutout of the season.  Awesome night!

SmartCEO Future 50 Awards
A special thank you goes out to Jonathan Lamb and The Meltzer Group for inviting MetaPhase CEO Fred Costa to join them at the SmartCEO Future 50 Awards.  Held on February 9 in Reston, VA, the Future 50 Awards program is the largest and most anticipated SmartCEO awards program of the year. This program recognizes the region’s fastest growing, mid-sized companies. These companies represent the future of the region’s economy and embody the entrepreneurial spirit critical for leadership and success.

Special congratulations to Future 50 Award recipients, ConceptPlus (Ahmad Abuzaakouk) & Inadev (Jitesh Sachdev)!

Tableau Government Summit Conference
On February 23, MetaPhase connected with the experts who are revolutionizing how government agencies access, analyze and share data at the Tableau Government Summit Conference in Washington, DC.  Our in-house Tableau pros networked with peers, sat in on sessions led by thought leaders, and talked with Tableau representatives to hear how others are making better decisions and delivering better results in the government sector.  One highlight of the event was a talk led by a representative from our client agency, USAID (U.S. Agency for International Development) on the impact of their 2016 enterprise-wide launch of Tableau Server and Desktop, and how it has saved  operating units significant business time, driven to deeper insight with life-saving data, replaced outdated analytics approaches, contributed to fiscal oversight, and driven new and innovative management tools across the Agency.
