1. Our 2016 School Supply Drive Was a HUGE Success!

"We know how much farm workers sacrifice for their children, and we do the school supply drive, not as an act of charity, but as a means for thanking them for all of their work while making sure their children know how much we want them to succeed (and what superstars they are!)." - lauren Ornelas

This year we distributed 379 backpacks stuffed with much-needed school supplies to the children of farm workers. That's 47 more backpacks than last year!

As a hard-working, almost entirely volunteer organization operating on a tight budget, we're so, so proud of this incredibly successful school supply drive and thrilled to be able to set some pretty great kids up for success this school year.

We're also eternally grateful to you, our supporters and volunteers, who showed up for us and, more importantly, for the kids.

Read more about the event and see a detailed list of organizations and people who we thank from the bottom of our hearts in lauren's blog.

And don't miss the adorable photos of the excited kids getting their backpacks!

2. Sounds Before the Slaughter

As a vegan food justice organization, Food Empowerment Project (F.E.P.) is passionate about animals' lives and making sure people know that when they eat animals they are taking a life.

Every month, we coordinate protests in front of a chicken slaughterhouse.  Every month, we're there to raise awareness about the lives lost behind those walls.

In this blog, lauren reflects on sounds the chickens made as they were trucked to their deaths. It's agonizing to hear those voices and know their fate, but we also believe it is important that we bear witness to their suffering and remind passersby that animals are being killed there.
