President's Message

Finally, it's Springtime, the merry merry ring time, birds sing, a ling! A ding a ling a ring!
Sorry, had a moment.........

This months meeting we will be creating some trees for the raffle table, so bring in some extra trees or pots or soil you may not be using at the moment, and I'll bring what we have as a club and we will have a pot and styling party!

And, very importantly, we will be signing up for our one day show at Epcot (taking place May 20th).

But, most importantly of all, we need to begin the process of the Election of new officers for next year. which means we need to form an election committee to help find those interested to fill the role of club officers.

Don't miss it, it'll be fun, educational, and just plain spiffy!

See ya'!

MEETING DATE April 7, 2017
Meeting 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm

This years joint ABS/BSF convention is shaping up to be a huge success; not only are there more international artists than ever but the workshops will be geared to all level of registrants. and for those with too many trees already, you don't need to take a workshop that requires you to purchase one. And vice/versa, if you're looking to increase your collection with quality trees, this year the trees will be vetted by each teacher, which usually means good stuff.
All the favorites will still be there: the exhibit, the vendor room, clubnight, the styling completion. Don't be put off by the different format, you might be surprised at the way it lets you see more of the convention than the regular format.
If you wish to sign up for a class its best to do it sooner than later, there are some that are booked up already. They are at a record amount of registrations for so early. Go over to for the registration page and check out the all star lineup, the informative workshops and the demo schedule.

We are three months into our new year so, if you haven't paid your annual dues, please see our Treasurer, Dave, to be sure you stay in good standings with the club. Guests are welcome with no obligation to join. Hope to see you there!!
Membership Dues

April Bonsai Care

Tropicals: Get your shears out and feed, feed, feed!   Tropicals are loving the hot days and all the rain we are getting.  Be sure to keep the trees fed but keep the new shoots under control.  Tropicals can get out of control quickly and interior branched shaded out.  So trim to shape and keep it open to develop new branches from the trunk where needed

Deciduous: The leaves are finally popping and new growth is everywhere.  Pay attention to what you want the tree to do.  If you are looking to develop the trunk this year let the foliage grow and fertilize with lots of nitrogen to help the foliage go.  If you are looking to refine your tree wait until the leaves hap popped and hardened off so that the trees won't explode with new grown and take your refined trees into a bush.  Make sure to change your watering to give more that is needed now that the trees are no longer dormant and pushing new growth.

Evergreens: Feed your evergreens now, in slow increments increase the amount of fertilizers.  You want these trees to grow strong all the way up through mid June. New branches will develop and back-budding will help fill in the branches.  Increase your watering to help the active trees with their growth.
