A Word from Rev. Karen

This week in worship we bless the backpacks.
As well as the tablets, and home work stations, and internet connections!

Blessing the backpacks is a is a years-long tradition as the photo above of Elizabeth Delgado's backpack full of tags demonstrates. So many traditions are transformed this year. It can be a comfort when some can stay the same.

And so we offer our prayers

From Kindergarteners to Graduate Students, we pray blessings as school begins.
For teachers, administrators, and staff we pray prayers of blessing and thanksgiving.
For parents and grandparents and family members we pray prayers of peace and calm and patience.
For all, we pray for continued safety and an opening to listening and learning in these new ways.

In worship this Sunday, have your backpack or tablet or laptop handy for a blessing.

Dena Dissmeyer, CUMC's Children's Ministry Director, will mail the blessed tags out to our children and Joseph Makunga will mail them to youth. Reply to this email if you want to make sure we have your correct address.

In prayer and care,
Rev. Karen

A Musical Meditation from Katie

As a special piece for the "Weekly Window," Katie shares an audio of her playing a well-loved hymn! This week's hymn is "Shall We Gather at the River." Click HERE and enjoy!

A Note from Katie

Hi, All!  Can you believe it's September?  Believe it or not, our CUMC Kids Choir is starting THIS Sunday, September 6th. We're happy to be partnering with Dena and all of our Sunday School teachers this Fall, so look for our weekly rehearsals at the end of the Sunday School video that Dena emails out each week. Be sure to sign in by commenting, or saying hi, or posting an emoji in the comment section below the Sunday School video on Youtube. That way, we'll know who's been watching, learning, and singing along.

We'll start with the songs "Blest Are They" and "Advent Tells Us Christ is Near", and eventually, we'll collect videos of the kids to put together our very own CUMC (Virtual) Kids Choir to share with the congregation.  Also, on the first Sunday of each month from 10:45-11:15am, we'll have a Zoom check in and rehearsal, because it's just fun to see everybody.  Feel free to contact Katie if you have any questions!

CUMC Reopening Task Force

The Reopening Task Force is working on several outdoor, in-person worship experiences. We have submitted our plans to the Cal-Pac Conference and await approval. While we wait, what ideas do you have? And, until we can be together again, what part of the sanctuary or CUMC campus would you like to see in an upcoming worship video?  If you would like more information about the volunteer opportunities or would like to volunteer, please email the Task Force at
