A Word from Rev. Karen

Dear friends,

We find ourselves more and more in a season of waiting.

And we grow impatient.

It does not help to hear that this feeling is normal.

We have been waiting since early March for a time when we can gather safely together again. Then, we see the news of more and more cases of Covid-19 -- 100,000 new cases in the U.S. yesterday.

We have been waiting since summer for ways to join the continuing fight for justice in person, in ways we once did, with marching and in-person conversation and action. We have needed to find new ways to engage: educating ourselves, zoom conversations, and planning our Nativity display.

Later this month, we will begin the season of Advent. Always cast as a time of waiting and preparation. Preparing our hearts and homes and lives to celebrate anew the birth of the Christ child.

This year, we are tired of waiting. And, many of us long to embrace loved ones we have not seen in person for some time.

We find ourselves in what feels like a form of exile.

And so we continue to find creative and caring ways to connect.

We connect in new ways with family and friends.

We connect virtually in worship and fellowship and discipleship.

We imagine a time after this.

And we make the best of this time.

What ways have you found to spend time in ways that soothe your own spirit or care for others?

What do you do as you wait?

Let's share our resources as we continue to wait in faith.

In prayer and care,
Rev. Karen

We are praying for...

If you have someone you would like Claremont UMC to keep in prayer, and list on our prayer list, please email Jessica, prayers@claremontumc.org. Please indicate whether they are to be listed on the public prayer list, or kept private. Please pray for these dear ones on our prayer list, HERE.

A Musical Meditation from Katie

As a special piece for the "Weekly Window," Katie shares an audio of her playing a well-loved hymn! This week's hymn Katie felt would be extra meaningful, "Blest Be the Tie that Binds" from The United Methodist Hymnal, No. 557. Click HERE and enjoy!

Rev. Dwight Vogel, OSL

Psalm Teaser
This fall, we have enjoyed in worship readings from A Lukan Pslater, proclaimed by members and friends of the Order of Saint Luke.  The psalter is the creative and spiritual endeavor of Rev. Dr. Dwight Vogel. In the video below he shares about the practice of chanting the psalms as prayer. This Sunday in worship, we will hear the psalm chanted by Dwight. Thank you all for this gift of time and faith.
Claremont United Methodist Church is hereby granted permission to use material from A Lukan Psalter copyright 2020, in worship services in October and November 2020, provided that the following credit line is given: "Reprinted from A Lukan Psalter copyright 2020 by The Order of Saint Luke. Used with permission."

The Men's Enrichment Group

The Men's Enrichment Group continues to "meet" through a rotating buddy system, connecting via telephone, email, and post. The group also continues fellowship, individual sharing, and devotional study via Zoom on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of each month. The next Zoom gathering will be on Wednesday, November 11 at 8:00 a.m. The group is currently discussing The Book of Joy by the Dali Lama and Desmond Tutu. You are invited and welcome to join! For more information, send an email to info@claremontumc.org, or contact Carl Williams or Ron Harrington.

The CUMC Kids Choir

Our CUMC Kids Choir sends its greetings to you all!  We had our second monthly Zoom meeting this past Sunday, complete with costumes: a triceratops, cotton candy, and a 1920s flapper. It was great to see all of the kids and teachers again, and to get to sing together. We've finished up working on "Blest Are They," and will be starting our Advent and Christmas music soon. How time flies!

As always, be sure to watch the Sunday School and Kids Choir video each week, and say "hi" in the comments section below the video on YouTube to let us know you're watching. Be well, everyone!

Happy November Birthday!

Please contact the church office if we accidentally failed to list your birthday (or if we have it incorrect), and please accept our apologies!

See's Candy Fundraiser for the Preschool at Claremont UMC

I hope this finds you well and in need of chocolate! This year The Preschool has opened an online See's candy storefront to make ordering See's candy easy and COVID-friendly and I wanted to extend it to the church members.

This means you can order and pay online, and your See's Candy will be shipped straight to you! Cross some names off your list and have your stocking stuffers ready to go. Please feel free to share the link below with your friends and family, too!

The Storefront is open now and will close down on Friday, November 20.  All your favorites are available like Nuts and Chews, Milk Chocolates, delicious suckers, Molasses Chips, Peanut Brittle, and more, along with New Candy Bars.

So, please click on the link below, take a look at the flyer, by clicking HERE, for a helpful hint, and spread the word.  It's a sweet deal to get some holiday shopping done and support The Preschool!

Thanksgiving Meals for Inland Valley Hope Partners

Careful Caring Continues

As in years past, we would like to continue to provide Thanksgiving Dinners to those who are struggling to put food on the table through the Beta Center. We have decided that the least amount of contact would be accomplished by asking you to provide monetary contributions instead of actual food items this year. We can provide families with Stater Bros. Gift Cards. We can purchase the Gift Cards through the Preschool at Claremont UMC, which will also support them. Please consider purchasing a $25.00 gift card, which would purchase a turkey, or a $50.00 gift card, which would provide a complete meal.

How do you do this? It is very simple. Email Leslie Biglin at lbiglin@gmail.com. Let Leslie know if you would like to contribute $25 or $50 (or more) toward this project. Then send your gift to Claremont UMC, making checks payable to CUMC with the designation for "Thanksgiving Boxes" on the memo line. Thank you for your contributions!

CUMC Reopening Task Force

The Reopening Task Force received approval to create outdoor worship experiences in person. The first one in planning stages is an outdoor worship experience for youth later this year.

In order to hold these in-person experiences we need trained volunteers to direct car traffic and foot traffic and to ask screening questions and take temperatures. Until we have volunteers, we cannot begin these services. If you are willing to attend a training, likely in person, please respond to this email askclaremontumc@gmail.com.

On another note, we need to make clear that we will follow all conference and county protocols. The church office and all church facilities except the preschool remain closed.
