Election Week Spiritual Resources

Dear Friends in Faith,

On the eve of the eve of Election Day, I want to acknowledge for each of us that we have been in a season of uncertainty and turmoil. It is clear to me that this is true for many in our country regardless of their vote.

And so my first prayer is the simple prayer that peace prevail.

We have curated a few resources for you to engage today and through Election Day.

In non-pandemic times, my practice would be to open the sanctuary for Election Day prayers.

Instead, we will open our virtual spaces for prayer and care.

In this email are several spiritual resources available to you now and through and beyond Election Day.

First, a prayer for our nation from our sanctuary by Rev. Martha Morales, found by clicking the video above.

Next, a meditation for you to engage any time leading up to the election or beyond, provided by friend of Claremont UMC, Dr. Marcia McFee. In a season sometimes characterized as one of winners and losers, this reflection, instead, invites us to name the many losses we have experienced in 2020 and focuses us ultimately on the Light of Christ.
It can be found by clicking the video link below.

Next, information about an interfaith and interdisciplinary contemplation and prayer vigil that begins at 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2, on the Facebook page of WeRiseNow.
See the image below for how to register to access the vigil.

Finally, on Election Day, we will open a Facebook Live from the sanctuary on the CUMC Facebook page. This is a virtual way of opening the sanctuary to you. The video of the sanctuary will be accessible any time on the CUMC Facebook page.

I also chose to keep Katie Ledsinger's musical reflection from last week, Morning Has Broken.

Rev. Martha and I are prepared to be present in other ways as well. Stay tuned.

In prayer and care,
Rev. Karen
