A Word from Rev. Karen

Dear friends,

My gratitude runs deep for this congregation -- for each one of you and for all of the missions and ministries and prayerful connections you make through music, prayer, care of others, discipleship and study.

It is remarkable to see so much of this continue in 2020 and to continue to engage in meaningful worship and meaningful connection.

The stewardship of time and financial resources that you give to sustain this faith community is amazing.

I am deeply grateful.

This Sunday, we conclude the stewardship campaign for our 2021 mission and ministries. Thank you to those of you who have already begun to return pledge cards by mail and to those of you who will drive through the church driveway this Sunday.

Rev. Martha and I will be there to greet you and bless you. And Stewardship chairs Dan and Sara Domonoske will be present to receive your pledge cards.

It will be nice to see some of you for the first time since March.

My prayers are with each one of you and all of us as we continue to work to stay safe and healthy.

In a season of gratitude, my heart and soul are filled with joy.

In prayer and care,
Rev. Karen

We are praying for...

If you have someone you would like Claremont UMC to keep in prayer, and list on our prayer list, please email Jessica, Please indicate whether they are to be listed on the public prayer list, or kept private. Please pray for these dear ones on our prayer list, HERE.

A Musical Meditation from Katie

As a special piece for the "Weekly Window," Katie shares an audio of her playing a well-loved hymn! This week's hymn Katie felt would be extra meaningful, "Let There Be Peace on Earth," which can be found in The United Methodist Hymnal, No. 431. Click HERE and enjoy!

Checking in with Chimes

Youth Chimes continues to gather each week on Zoom, practicing our homage to Steve Reich's Clapping Music. Katie is really pleased with how it's shaping up. We're also gearing up to start working on our Christmas music.

Just a couple of scheduling notes: there will be NO Zoom meeting on Sunday, November 15th. Same thing goes for November 29th: no meeting that day, as it's the last day of Thanksgiving break. Sleep in, Youths!  And Happy Fall, everyone!

An Update from Stewardship

You should have received a pledge card in the mail this week. The Stewardship Committee is very grateful for your pledge for 2021. Please mail your card in the enclosed stamped envelope or drive by the church on Sunday November 15th between 2:00 and 3:00 p.m. to drop off your pledge card from your car. (Please remain in your car at all times for the safety of yourself and others.) Rev. Karen Clark Ristine, Rev. Martha Morales, Dan and Sara Domonoske will be at the church to greet you.

With Gratitude,
The Stewardship Committee

October Report of the Financial Secretary

Thanks again to the members and friends of Claremont United Methodist Church! Despite the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, giving to our church has remained strong. This has allowed us to continue to fully pay all staff and clergy, and to fund all church missions and ministries except those limited by the pandemic-related restrictions.
Contributions to the general budget for the first ten months of the year were $406,517. That is slightly below our budgeted amount of $413,458. Pledged giving remains strong, while unpledged giving has fallen off some.
Again, thank you! Your contributions continue to allow us to provide the ministries and support the missional work of Claremont UMC.
During this year, I have been providing you with bi-monthly reports on how we are doing with pledged and non-pledged giving. I hope that this has been informative to you and will be helpful in seeing how your pledge for 2021 can continue to support the missions and ministries of your church in these challenging times.
Bob Dalton, Financial Secretary

Non-Perishable Food Drive

in coordination with CUMCs Pledge Card Drop-Off
Sunday, November 15
2:00-3:00 p.m.

Dear Members and Friends of Claremont UMC,
As you drop off your pledge card this Sunday, November 15 at church in our drive-through event, members of the Homeless/Hunger Committee will also be on hand to receive donations of non-perishable food items. This includes canned and dried foods like rice and beans. Families in need are especially appreciative of easy to use protein items like peanut butter and canned tuna. Feel free to bring something you can spare from your own pantry at home. We look forward to seeing you “in-person” from the safety of your vehicle. All of the non-perishable food will be donated to Inland Valley Hope Partners, who help families in need in the Pomona/La Verne/Claremont area and beyond. As always, we so appreciate your efforts to join with the Task Force to alleviate hunger in our local community. Blessings in this season as we offer gratitude to God by caring for our neighbors.

Thanksgiving Meals for Inland Valley Hope Partners

Careful Caring Continues

As in years past, we would like to continue to provide Thanksgiving Dinners to those who are struggling to put food on the table through the Beta Center. We have decided that the least amount of contact would be accomplished by asking you to provide monetary contributions instead of actual food items this year. We can provide families with Stater Bros. Gift Cards. We can purchase the Gift Cards through the Preschool at Claremont UMC, which will also support them. Please consider purchasing a $25.00 gift card, which would purchase a turkey, or a $50.00 gift card, which would provide a complete meal.
How do you do this? It is very simple. Email Leslie Biglin at Let Leslie know if you would like to contribute $25 or $50 (or more) toward this project. Then send your gift to Claremont UMC, making checks payable to CUMC with the designation for "Thanksgiving Boxes" on the memo line. Thank you for your contributions!

CUMC Reopening Task Force

The Reopening Task Force received approval to create outdoor worship experiences in person. The first one in planning stages is an outdoor worship experience for youth later this year.

In order to hold these in-person experiences we need trained volunteers to direct car traffic and foot traffic and to ask screening questions and take temperatures. Until we have volunteers, we cannot begin these services. If you are willing to attend a training, likely in person, please respond to this email

On another note, we need to make clear that we will follow all conference and county protocols. The church office and all church facilities except the preschool remain closed.
