Visiting the Vale of Pewsey

Explore - Stay - Eat - Drink - Shop

We are well into the summer of 2020 and it's been a bit of a rollercoaster for everyone.
Most of our businesses have now reopened, albeit with some changes to normal operating hours and with modifications to ensure they are Covid-secure.
We've got all the latest news and ideas for your visit whether it's for a day, a weekend or longer.
Find out more about how we prepared for reopening across the Vale here and on where is open here.

Have a look here to find out who is taking part in the Eat Out to Help Out scheme during August.
If you are planning to eat out or takeaway, we would advise to call beforehand to book - in many places booking is now essential to ensure distancing.

We hope you enjoy this edition of our newsletter and look forward to welcoming you to the Vale of Pewsey soon.
Gretchen and her team at The Farm Cookery School in Netherstreet have been extremely busy reconfiguring the cookery room and dining room to ensure safety for everyone.
These fabulous perspex cookery pods, as well as a new dining room layout, mean that the cookery school is back up and running.
Global Flavour courses are starting up again in September - they really are great fun and you get to eat what you cook at the end of it.  Very sociable and an excellent activity for a group of friends or family - highly recommended.  And there's also Date Nights for couples who would like to cook and eat together.
Have a look here for the upcoming events.
Events
Many events are unable to take place due to current restrictions.  However, the calendar is slowly rebuilding and includes regular 'special' evenings at a number of our country pubs, online events, courses and exhibitions.

Caring for Carers
For over 30 years, Bruce Boats have helped physically and socially vulnerable adults and young people to regain confidence through canal boating with day trips and longer holidays in the beautiful Wiltshire countryside.  Based at Great Bedwyn Wharf, Bruce Boats is part of the Kennet and Avon Canal Trust.  They maintain four specially designed accessible boats - Rebecca, Hannah, Rachel and Diana - plus a traditional narrow boat, The Lady Hilda, which is used for educating and encouraging young people to enjoy boating.
Lockdown was very difficult for many of us and particularly so for those who care for others.  The Coronavirus crisis highlighted to the whole nation the value of carers, whether working in care homes or the community.  Bruce Boats' highly trained volunteers who skipper and crew day trips have seen at first-hand the wonderful and dedicated work of all carers and have always had huge admiration and respect for their work.
Caring for Carers is Bruce Boats' way of saying Thank You.

Bruce Boats are offering several sponsored FREE DAY TRIPS for carers working in care homes and day centres, and home-carers, aboard one of their specially equipped wide-beam canal boats. If you are a carer, or would like to nominate a carer, please contact Bruce Boats to reserve a place by emailing bookings@katrust.org.uk.
Each trip will cruise along the beautiful Kennet and Avon Canal in the heart of Wiltshire, gliding through peaceful countryside and stopping for lunch in a secluded spot. Trips will run alongside our usual hire programme once restrictions are lifted and it is safe to operate – but bookings can be made now.
Sponsor a Trip
Each trip will be sponsored and Bruce Boats are seeking sponsors for some of the trips at a cost of around £250 per trip. If you wish to thank carers from your local care home or day centre, or a home carer, this is a perfect opportunity. To sponsor a trip please email their bookings team at bookings@katrust.org.uk.

McNeill Gallery of Contemporary Art's Summer Exhibition Part II
is now underway.

The exhibition continues with many new artworks and artists, including works by 'The Rebel Bear'.
You can visit the gallery in the Market Place in Pewsey, or you can view the exhibition online.

Street Artist, known as ‘The Rebel Bear’ has been creating street art over the last five years throughout Scotland as well as London and Calais. The themes of his work cover politics, love and human emotion and comment on the “absurdity” of the world we have created.
The Rebel Bear's latest exhibits have appeared recently in Glasgow with the topic of Covid 19 in our midst. He is an anonymous street artist who leaves politically charged treasures all over the UK.

BBC Scotland: May 2020
"I feel like I am on my own path," he told BBC Scotland. "Saying that, I still feel privileged to be labelled as the 'Scottish Banksy'.
"Banksy and other artists such as blek le rat etc have paved the way for street art and have inspired my journey."
But The Rebel Bear's main motivation is "to make people think and hopefully raise a smile".
