RRSP Deadline tomorrow at 11:59 pm!
Tips from Chamber member & Community Partner Lloyd Rutledge TD Wealth Management
The 2017 RRSP contributions deadline is 11:59 p.m., March 1, 2018. Also, 2018 TFSA contribution room was made available on January 1, 2018. For your reference, we have put together the following Quick Facts about Registered Retirement Savings Plans and Tax Free Savings Plans.
Quick Facts about RRSPs:
Your allowable RRSP contribution for the current year is the lower of:
18% of your earned income from the previous year, or
The maximum annual contribution limit for the taxation year, or
The remaining limit after any company sponsored pension plan contributions.
Your contribution limit for 2017 can be found on your Canada Revenue Agency Notice of Assessment for 2016.
The maximum annual contribution limit is $26,010 for 2017.
Contributions are deductible against your income for Canadian income tax purposes, subject to your contribution limit, and are not taxed until you withdraw them as needed during retirement (ideally at a lower tax rate). Withdrawals can be made at any time, not just during retirement.
You may contribute to your RRSP until December 31 of the year in which you reach age 71.
Contributions made during the first 60 days of 2018 can be used for the current or previous tax year.
Tax Free Savings Accounts (TFSA's)
You may contribute $5,500 to your TFSA for 2018 and total contribution room since inception is now $57,500.
In addition to this $5,500 contribution room, you can use any of your unused TFSA contribution room from the previous year.
If you withdrew funds from your TFSA last year, you can re-contribute the amount this year without impacting your 2018 contribution room.
Staples Park Royal celebrates International Women's Day with offer to women entrepreneurs & business leaders
"Staples is excited to promote International Women's Day on March 8, 2018 this year from 10am to 2pm as part of our tradition of supporting women entrepreneurs in our local communities across Canada. We have opportunities available for women entrepreneurs and business leaders who are interested in interacting with our customers (75% business clientele, our demographic is skewed toward women) on this day by promoting their business, telling their story, and networking.
This is an informal event and no public speaking is required, it is a great opportunity to connect one on one with potential customers, and hopefully to inspire other women. Staples will be promoting this event in media and with aggressive sales promotions, so we expect an increased amount of traffic during the event, 10am to 2pm. We also have a limited budget for helping to print promotional materials to hand out." Joel Mills, General Manager, Staples West Vancouver.
If you are interested in participating, please contact Joel Mills for details. Chamber members: Staples Park Royal will be offering 10% off purchases during that time for business customers, as well as $30 off print services jobs that are $75 or more.

Canadian Chamber offers update on the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP)
"The federal government released the text of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), coming on the heels of negotiations concluding last month. The CPTPP text largely affirms the same provisions that were contained in the original Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). In light of the US withdrawal from the TPP, a number of TPP provisions were suspended in CPTPP, most notably around intellectual property. The agreement will be signed on March 8, 2018, during a meeting of CPTPP trade ministers in Chile...." READ THE FULL ECONOMIC ASSESSMENT HERE
