Mr. and Miss SUU Results

We are so proud and thankful for all the talent our CDI students have to offer. We also give a huge, huge, huge congratulations to Jeremy Garcia and Malaysia Phang for getting 1st Runner Up in the Mr. SUU and Miss SUU competition. We can't be any more proud of you for showing up and showing your stuff!

CDI Student of the Month

The CDI is excited to highlight some of the amazing students who are a part of the T-Bird family. This year we will continue our Student of the Month initiative where outstanding students can be nominated and featured throughout the school year.

Nominations are accepted from any SUU faculty, staff, or student. Winners will be chosen by the CDI team and will be recognized physically in the CDI, in the electronic newsletter, and will be awarded a gift card in appreciation.

The Student of the Month nominee should demonstrate the qualities of a leader, exemplify the CDI’s mission, and actively promotes the center’s message of inclusivity. September's voting will close on the 30th, so don't forget to nominate a deserving student HERE!

Homecoming Week
We're well into Homecoming Week, but there's still more events to go. Check out the full list of homecoming events right here! Most importantly, don't forget to support our football team at their Homecoming game against Cal Poly this Saturday, September 28, at 6:00 PM.
Hispanic Heritage Month
October is Hispanic Heritage month! Come support the Latinx Student Alliance in celebrating their culture at the following events:
  • McFarland, USA Screening on Tuesday, October 1 from 6 to 8 PM. Join us for a screening of McFarland, USA, a movie that shows that through the perseverance, commitment, incredible work ethic, and strong ties to family so often displayed by the Latinx community, a newly formed team of cross-country runners can become outstandingly successful. The film will be showed in ST 135 (Theatre).
  • Latin Game Night on Wednesday, October 2 from 6 to 8 PM. Bring out your competitive spirit and join us in The NEST (ST 178) for a chance to win at loteria and other tabletop games and to make new friends.
  • Carnaval Night on Thursday, October 3 from 6 to 8 PM. Carnaval is a colorful event usually celebrated before the Catholic tradition of Lent, usually involving food, games, and shows. Join us in the CDI for a chance to learn and participate in this event, where we'll be decorating the masks usually seen in this event.
  • Calle Night on Friday, October 4 from 6 to 10 PM. Put on your street shoes and comfortable clothes, and come to Calle Night to get moving! We will be meeting in Parking Lot 14 for a night of soccer.

Trunk or Treat
There will be Trunk or Treat event held by the SUU Student Programming Board next Friday, October 4 from 7- to 9 PM. It will be for both children and college students, so don't be afraid to dress up and get some candy in the street between the Institute and the SUU PE Building.

The Center for Diversity and Inclusion (CDI) exists to validate the multiple identities present on our campus, while integrating the voices and experiences of marginalized people. We provide emotional, social, and financial support to students from historically underrepresented communities (e.g. students of color, LGBTQIA+ students, first-generation college students, etc.)

The CDI collaborates with campus partners to foster a learning environment that respects multiple perspectives and differences through multicultural clubs, workshops, trainings and cultural programming. The CDI invites members of the campus community to join in conversation about how to cultivate an inclusive, safe, and welcoming campus culture.
