Good Luck on Finals

The Center for Diversity and Inclusion wishes you the best of luck on your finals! Have a wonderful and safe break and we look forward to seeing you next semester.

Student of the Month

Congratulations to Tylor Garcia-Standing Soldier for being selected the November CDI Student of the Month. Tylor is currently the President of the Native American Student Association (NASA), an Assistant Director in Student Programming Board (SPB), and is a member of the Paiute Indian Tribe of Utah. He is a junior studying business management. As his recommendation read, "He is a leader and does so with patience and love. He is constantly involved in service both on and off campus. He’s innovative and inclusive. He is a role model." Tylor works exceptionally hard for NASA and did amazing work with Native American Heritage Week this November. Tylor is always bringing smiles to the CDI and we are excited to officially recognize him for all his efforts. Congrats Tylor!

UServeUtah Internships
UServeUtah Youth Council
We are looking for students who come from a wide variety of backgrounds, have a desire to be involved and give back to their community, and would like to develop strategies to engage their peers and other young people in service and volunteerism. Council members will be expected to commit to a full year of service and be actively engaged in the meetings and activities of the UServeUtah Youth Council (this can be done remotely). The opportunity for students to apply will close towards the end of December. Click here for more information.

We are recruiting interested students for paid internships during the winter semester (Jan-April/May 2019). Students will have the opportunity to work 15-25 hours every week and will be compensated at $12/hr. Interns will have the opportunity to develop public policy, work with state leaders, and support volunteerism in the state of Utah. The opportunity for students to apply will end on December 21st. Click here for more information.

Black History Month Class
In advance of Spring Semester registration opening next week, I am pleased to send you a flyer and calendar for SUU's Celebration of Black History Month in late-January and February 2019.  While events are free and open to the public, interested students are encouraged to enroll in the one-credit P/F options, History 2922 or History 3922.  This year's national theme is "Black  Migrations," and our BHM program features speakers from SUU and other universities, along with specially-selected movies.  Questions can be directed to Earl Mulderink at or 435/865-8341.
CDI Student of the Month (December)
The Center for Diversity and Inclusion (CDI) is excited to highlight some the amazing students who are a part of the T-Bird family. This year we will begin a Student of the Month initiative where outstanding students can be nominated and featured throughout the month. Nominations will be accepted from any SUU faculty, staff, or student. Winners will be chosen by the CDI team and will be recognized physically in the CDI, in the electronic newsletter, and will be awarded a gift card in appreciation. To nominate a student who you believe deserves this recognition, click here.

The Center for Diversity and Inclusion (CDI) exists to validate the multiple identities present on our campus, while integrating the voices and experiences of marginalized people. We provide emotional, social, and financial support to students from historically underrepresented communities (e.g. students of color, LGBTQIA+ students, first-generation college students, etc.)

The CDI collaborates with campus partners to foster a learning environment that respects multiple perspectives and differences through multicultural clubs, workshops, trainings and cultural programming. The CDI invites members of the campus community to join in conversation about how to cultivate an inclusive, safe, and welcoming campus culture.
