Happy Hispanic Heritage Month!

The Center for Diversity and Inclusion is proud to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. From September 15 - October 15 we honor and recognize the contributions of Hispanic and Latinx Americans which continue to enrich our nation. Stay tuned for some great programming from our very own Latino Student Alliance!


Adulting 101
Are you sick and tired of being sick and tired? Prepare for the real world by attending Adulting 101 on Wednesday, September 18th at 5 PM in the Nest (ST 178). You will learn about exercising, nutrition, pain management and relief, and strategies to save money.
A.P.E.X. Events: Dr. Sarah Lewis
This year's Grace A. Tanner Lecture in Human Values will partner with A.P.E.X. Events to feature Dr. Sarah Lewis. Dr. Lewis' presentation is "Images, Place, and Restorative Justice" This event will take place in The Great Hall on Sept. 20th at 11:30 a.m. The event is free and open to the public.
  • Dinner and Dialogue: On behalf of the Tanner Center I would like to invite you to a Dinner and Dialogue with the 2018 Tanner Lecturer, Dr. Sarah Lewis,  on Thursday, September 20, at 6:00 in the Whiting Room. We are limited to a total of 30 people, so registrations for the dinner will be taken on a first come/first serve basis. Click here to RSVP, seats are limited.

Mexicans and Utahns: A Vibrant Partnership
On Thursday, September 20th from 4:30 to 5:30 PM hear from Mexican Consul Jose V. Borjon as he presents on the partnership between Mexico and Utah in the Leavitt Center. It is free, open to the public, refreshments served.
Southern Utah Pride 2018
This year is the third annual Pride of Southern Utah pride week!  
  • Wednesday: Pride Paint Nite. 21+ event. Tix online at Use code "PAINTWITHPRIDE" for 40% off. 6-9 p.m. 'Bout Time Pub & Grub.929 West Sunset Blvd. St. George
  • Thursday: Pride Picnic in the Park. You bring your dinner, we will provide dessert and live entertainment. 6:30-8:30 p.m. All ages. Free. Main Street Park. Cedar City. 
  • Friday: Burlesque and Drag Show. 21+. TICKETS WILL NOT BE SOLD AT THE DOOR. Because of the type of liquor license the hotel has, ALL  tickets MUST be sold in advance. This event sells out every year. Tickets are available on Hilton Garden Inn. 1731 South Convention Center Drive. St. George
  • Saturday: Interfaith Service. All Welcome. 9:30 a.m. Vernon Worthen Park. 300 S 400 East. St. George. Pride Festival is from 3-10, same location. All ages. General admission is free. 

Know Your Rights Workshop
Come learn about your constitutional rights if you encounter interactions with law enforcement on Wednesday, September 26th at 6 PM in the CDI (ST 101). Free snacks and refreshments! This event is open to everyone.
Hispanic Heritage Month Programming
Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with Latino Student Alliance (LSA) the week of October 1st-6th:
  • Monday at 11-1 PM (Living Room): Resource Fair
  • Tuesday at 4:30 PM (PEB 101): Screening of "Selena"
  • Wednesday at 6 PM (Starlight Room): Game Night- Bring $1 to participate
  • Thursday at 6 PM (CDI-ST 101): Havana Nights
  • Friday at 5-8 PM (Multipurpose Quad): Soccer Tournament (teams of 3-4) $12 per team

Gaming Fridays
Gaming Fridays are back! Do you like to play video and/or board games? Come join us every Friday from 12-5 PM in the CDI (ST 101).


CDI Student of the Month
The Center for Diversity and Inclusion (CDI) is excited to highlight some the amazing students who are a part of the T-Bird family. This year we will begin a Student of the Month initiative where outstanding students can be nominated and featured throughout the month. Nominations will be accepted from any SUU faculty, staff, or student. Winners will be chosen by the CDI team and will be recognized physically in the CDI, in the electronic newsletter, and will be awarded a gift card in appreciation. The Center for Diversity and Inclusion (CDI) exists to validate the multiple identities present on our campus, while integrating the voices and experiences of marginalized people. We provide emotional, social, and financial support to students from historically underrepresented communities (e.g. students of color, LGBTQIA+ students, first-generation college students, etc.)

The CDI collaborates with campus partners to foster a learning environment that respects multiple perspectives and differences through multicultural clubs, workshops, trainings and cultural programming. The CDI invites members of the campus community to join in conversation about how to cultivate an inclusive, safe, and welcoming campus culture.
