Powering Jones Gulch

Every 6 months we highlight some of the resources that your donations provide YMCA Camp Jones Gulch. "The Gulch" is where many Bay Area youth truly experience nature and become lifelong environmental stewards. Some, like Courtney, become hikers, tide poolers, recyclers, naturalists, environment scientists, and yes, even environmental attorneys!

San Joaquin County Schools also benefit from your donations.  Every 6th grader in the County participates in a week-long outdoor education program as part of their Science Education.  Some of these students have never been to the mountains or the ocean and are amazed at the diversity of our State.  This is where Courtney started her journey as a lifelong environmental steward.

How is Courtney's Fund empowering outdoor education? This year's focus is to help the Gulch explore solar panels. Solar power is the right ecologic and economic choice, and it makes a statement of the Gulch's values to thousands of kids and adults each year.

How can you help?

We will match your donations for the next 30 days
The Courtney Harrington LeBoeuf Fund commits to matching 100% of your donations in the next 30 days to help YMCA Camp Jones Gulch for their solar panel projects. If you've been waiting for a call to action, a way to give back, or a reason to donate, this is it. If you've given to the Fund every year, but haven't yet made your yearly donation, now is the time.

Thank you!

Breast Cancer Fund

Courtney's Fund proudly supports the Breast Cancer Fund's Campaign for Safe Cosmetics. Would you be shocked to find out that cancer-causing chemicals are found in many popular cosmetics and health and beauty supplies - and that large retailers (Target, Walmart, Walgreens) do not have to report any of this?

You made a difference. With the support of Courtney's Fund, the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics secured a commitment from CVS to removing formaldehyde from a number of CVS brands products. After 50,000 Campaign supporters told Revlon to eliminate toxic chemicals from its cosmetics, Revlon overhauled its ingredients list. There's way more in process with Unilever, Walmart, Target, etc. The goal is to continue to eliminate the known environmental causes of cancer in consumer products. And Courtney smiles down on us for this amazing work.

To choose healthy and environmentally friendly products we recommend the GoodGuide and Skin DeepThese invaluable websites and apps list hundreds of products and their ingredients, pointing out the carcinogens in them and how they affect the body.  You will be shocked at what you find!

1st Annual Courtney Harrington LeBoeuf Environmental Law Scholarship awarded

We are honored to announce Catherine Simon as the first recipient of the Tulane University Environmental Law Scholarship in Courtney's honor. Catherine received $1,500 towards her studies. A third-year law student, Catherine is a graduate of Boston University where she was president and editor of the Pre-Law Review student publication. At Tulane she has developed a strong interest in Environmental Law. She is one of the senior managing editors of the Environmental Law Journal, a student attorney at the Environmental Law Clinic, and last year was the outreach coordinator for the Environmental Law Summit. In the summer of 2014, Catherine worked in the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection's Office of General Counsel with attorneys primarily focused on regulatory issues. After graduation, Catherine will return to Florida where she has accepted a position with a small firm in Lakeland. Her work will primarily be in the transactional area, but the firm has a small practice devoted to environmental law, which she hopes to help expand.

Thanks to your nearly $50,000 in pledged commitments to the Tulane Scholarship endowment, we'll be awarding this scholarship every year...for decades to come!

So... back to the that giving challenge!
