"I am so grateful for the support I have received from OXPIP. I was really struggling after the birth of my second child and feeling completely overwhelmed and distressed. I was finding it difficult to connect with my baby. My therapist created a very safe and non-judgemental space for me to work through my emotions. I can't express enough how much her understanding and guidance helped me and how much healthier I feel now. My relationship with my baby is improving all the time and I'm starting to be the mum that I want to be for him. Thank you OXPIP, for the hugely beneficial and much needed work you are doing"
- OXPIP Client
Welcome from Helen Callaghan, CEO Clinical Director
Dear Friends,

Once again it has been a busy few months, and we have started to see some clients face-to-face where possible, which has been very positive! In June our referrals were up by 60% compared to June 2020, so there is still a huge demand for our services and we are grateful that the ever changing restrictions have not stopped us being able to reach those families in need.

We have also had some fantastic fundraising events which you can read about below - thank you once again to all who supported Rob's Tour De OXPIP and who joined us for the NCO Summer Opera. Our next event is local dad Jon Gibbard running the London Marathon for us in October - please do show him your support. Any donation big or small makes a huge difference to our work with parents and babies in Oxfordshire.

Our team continues to grow and develop. In May we welcomed back Ailsa Lamont who was one of our previous PIT trainees. She is working with Katie Bailey on our developing project in Banbury. You can find out more about Ailsa on our website. We said goodbye to Melanie Royal-Lawson who had joined us as a freelance clinician for a few months - a big thank you to Melanie for all her support and hard work. We are also currently looking for a temporary Office Manager to cover Lizi Potter, our Operations Manager, who goes on Maternity Leave in November. Please do pass on the job advert below to anybody who you think may be interested - deadline is this week: Friday 30th July 2021.

Wishing you all an enjoyable summer and we look forward to all that the new academic year brings.

Best wishes,
We are very heartened by your continuous support of our fundraising initiatives - thank you. Your donation, no matter how small, helps to make our OXPIP Projects sustainable in these very challenging times.

We have recently had a couple of successful fundraising events, with more planned for the year - please visit our Support Us page for updates.
UPCOMING: OXPIP's London Marathon - 3rd October 2021
This year, OXPIP’s London Marathon place has gone to Jon Gibbard, a local Oxfordshire dad, keen runner and supporter of OXPIP. Jon is raising money for OXPIP by not only running the London Marathon, but also a 50 mile race (two weeks before) - ‘Chiltern Wonderland 50’. Please donate via the link below.
"I have the pleasure of working for a business, in a sector, where we get to make a positive difference in the world every day and that is an absolute joy. After doing 2 legs of the Clipper Round The World Yacht Race in 07-08, I wanted to run the marathon as my next adventure and was lucky to get a place in 2009. That was pre being a type 1 diabetic which I developed in 2012, so I wanted to prove to myself that my diabetes wouldn’t stop me running the marathon, which I did in 2015. This year I thought I'd take on the challenge of both the Marathon and the Chiltern Wonderland 50 in a fortnight!

I think the work OXPIP does in those formative years to help families is truly amazing and so important to help the well being of all involved. I have supported Oxford Young People's Mentoring (10 years ago as a mentor) and more recently Oxon Young Carers and so I really support the ethos behind what you are trying to achieve at OXPIP."

- Jon Gibbard

Rob's epic Tour De OXPIP!
A huge thanks again to Rob, our Chair of Trustees for completing his triple marathon, 'Tour De OXPIP' last month to raise money for OXPIP.

At 6pm on Friday 11th June, OXPIP Chair of Trustees, Rob Kenny, left The Sunshine Centre, Banbury on his epic one-day Triple Marathon Fundraiser to Didcot, Oxfordshire, passing by OXPIP’s project centres en route.  With much support from OXPIP staff, Trustees, supporters, family and well-wishers - and in temperatures exceeding 25 degrees – Rob successfully completed this heroic challenge, arriving at The Oak Tree Health Centre in Didcot shortly after 7pm. He raised almost £4,000 - thank you to all who donated!

OXPIP and New Chamber Opera - Summer Opera 2021

Thankfully this year we were able to once again spend an enjoyable evening at New College, Oxford, to watch New Chamber Opera perform Galuppi’s La Diavolessa, a comedy from 1755; the libretto is by Carlo Goldoni. As the weather was unpredictable, the performance was hosted in a marquee and we were able to enjoy our picnics in the cloisters, despite it being a bit chilly!

One attendee commented,

"Such a treat to be at the Diavolessa last night. Both music and caste were very attuned, and the everyman tale a triumph. A lovely combination. Thanks to all who made it possible. Everyone in our group had a great evening."

Thank you to all who were able to join us and once again to the support of New Chamber Opera.

Although there have been many funding challenges for us since the COVID-19 pandemic started, we have managed to maintain funding for almost all of our Projects, for which we are very thankful. As the full implications of COVID-19 and its impact on families are acknowledged, OXPIP's Parent-Infant Therapy and what we achieve is resonating well with funders. We continue to apply for any available, appropriate funding and are hopeful that we will sustain funding in 2021-2022.

A big Thank You to the Postcode Society Trust and the Trusthouse Charitable Trust for confirmation of their new funding support; to the Robert and Felicity Waley-Cohen Charitable Trust for confirmation of its renewed funding support, and to all our funders who make our OXPIP Projects possible. We truly appreciate how you help us to support Oxfordshire families!
Annual Report 2020 - 2021
Our Annual Report for April 2020 - March 2021 is due to be released imminently - watch this space! The following infographics provide a summary on our Parent-Infant Therapy for that period:

Clinical Work Update
The clinical team continues to work with parents and babies, presenting with a wide range of needs.  We have been particularly struck by the ongoing impact of COVID-19 on families and how this has frequently left parents feeling isolated, sometimes traumatised by the experience of becoming parents during a pandemic when the normal supports are not available. The impact of parental isolation and trauma on the baby cannot be underestimated.  Supporting a healthy and loving parent-infant relationship - one which acknowledges the difficult and painful feelings that parenting can stir up - is central to our therapeutic approach.

Plans are in place to return to more face-to-face work in the autumn where possible, although we will retain a blended approach of online and face-to-face working so as to maximise families' access to our service.
Professional Training Delivery
In the past 4 months we have delivered the following short courses to professionals online: Parent-Infant Group Work - Module One (with Monika Celebi), Assessing Parent-Infant Relationships, Watch, Wait and Wonder (An Introduction) and Ghosts in the Nursery, training 125 professionals from around the world. We have also delivered a two-hour training to the Fostering Service in Bedfordshire.
"Course tutors were clearly very knowledgable about their subject areas and were engaging when speaking. lots of really useful practice experience shared. Clear to see that a lot of thought had been put into how to make this course interactive."

Online Lectures
In June, we hosted our fifth online lecture, on Video Interaction Guidance, presented by Monika Celebi, National VIG supervisor and trainer, parent infant psychotherapist and movement therapist with over 30 years of clinical experience. Attendees felt it was useful to see the video clips and to observe the shared review process in action.

Our next online lecture is on Friday 24th September with Amanda Jones, a Consultant Perinatal Psychotherapist and Strategic & Clinical Lead of NELFT NHS Foundation Trust’s Perinatal Parent Infant Mental Health Service. You are most welcome to join us on Zoom!
