The Denefields Luncheon Club will be back in September as the Imperial Good Food Club and organisers are looking forward to seeing clients, both old and new at the new venue – Imperial Rooms in Matlock.

The Denefields Luncheon Club was awarded a grant from the Better Derbyshire Dales Fund in November last year to help them move to temporary premises while the community room at Denefields was updated. Once the renovations were complete it turned out there was a lack of space so the move to the Imperial Rooms became a permanent one. The new name was chosen by ballot and the Mayor Father Brian Smith will be coming on the 6

The new name for the club was chosen by ballot and the Mayor Father Brian Smith is coming on the 6th September to re-launch the Club. Members come to the weekly club as an opportunity to get out of the house and meet friends, do a bit of shopping, have a good meal and a good old chin wag.

The organisers (seen here celebrating the Queen’s 90th Birthday) are in need of new volunteers to help out – we would love to see you – it doesn’t have to be every week. Have you ever wondered about the statistics for your area? Maybe you need to gather evidence to show that your community is in need of something? Having some statistics could back up a funding application you’re writing – the Derbyshire Observatory is Derbyshire County Council’s online resource that holds all the statistics and data for the county and can be used to find information that could demonstrate why a project is needed.

The resource can take a bit of getting used to but the Policy Team at DCC has offered to run a half-day session for Derbyshire Dales Voluntary and Community Groups. To book your place contact Sarah Paisley on 01629 812154 or by email

DDCVS development workers Jonathan Simcock and Sarah Paisley are hosting a Voluntary and Community Group Networking coffee morning. Mizbah Ramzan from Foundation Derbyshire will  be attending the morning to talk about the work of the Foundation and to give advice on available grants. Jonathan and Sarah will be on hand, not only to provide refreshments but also to give advice on local grant funds  including the Better Derbyshire Dales Fund. All welcome.

We would like local community groups to book a stall to display information and be available to talk about their group or organisation. You never know – you might meet a potential new volunteer! The Life Chances Fund (LCF) is an £80m fund, which aims to help those people in society who face the most significant barriers to leading happy and productive lives. This forms part of the Prime Minister’s Life Chances Strategy. The LCF will issue themed call-outs or invitations for bids from applicants across six themes.

The first two themes will be:

  •   Drug and alcohol dependency – e.g. early diagnosis and treatment

  •   Children’s services – e.g. reducing time spent in residential care, preventing entry into care

Future themes will be:

  •  Young People

  •  Early Years

  •  Healthy Lives

  •  Older People’s service.

To improve mental health in the workplace National Mind recommends employers adopt a three-pronged strategy that:
1. Promotes wellbeing for all staff
2. Tackles the causes of work-related mental health problems
3. Supports staff who are experiencing mental health problems.
