President's Report

Welcome to the November E-News.

The Chamber has a busy November with Small Business Month – the Chamber delivering 3 events thanks to the sponsorship from the NSW Government all the Small Business month events are ‘free of charge’ and include complimentary food and beverage so as to encourage attendees to stay on and network.

Please also consider these events as opportunities as possible staff personal development programs.

Nov 10 – Small Business Health Check Fair
Nov 17 – Creating Destination Ambassadors – looking to connect our accommodation group and destination service providers in an information sharing event. This will be delivered in co-operation with the Tamworth Regional Council, and the last event is
Nov 22 – where we have a grant writing workshop with “The Grants Guy” Keith Whelan who is well known as a grant writing guru…. with the opportunities for small business operators and new business start-ups to secure government grant funding – a good one to attend especially if you have not previously received grants.

The Tamworth Business Chamber’s member survey is still open. We want to explore more about what you want and need as member services, support, and advocacy for business. If you have not completed the survey already, please take 5 minutes to influence the future direction of the chamber.

Congratulations to the New England North West winners for the Business NSW Awards.

Paula Martin from Business NSW along with Mayor Russell Webb visited last Monday to congratulate the winners and personally give them their awards. All the winners now go to Sydney on Friday 18 November to find out if they will take out the State award in their respective categories.

Is there something you would like to change about your property?
The Tamworth Regional Local Environmental Plan 2010 (LEP) is currently under review, which means residents and business owners wishing to request a change to planning legislation affecting properties across the Tamworth region have an opportunity to do so.
Expressions of interest can be submitted for a review of any matter in the LEP such as zoning, minimum lot sizes, heritage listings, floor space ratios or building heights.
Expressions of interest will remain open between Monday 24 October and Monday 5 December 2022.

Thanks to everyone who braved the weather to celebrate the biggest day on the racing calendar. 
Our Fashions on the Field competition did not disappoint with Caroline Lumley taking out most stylish female and George Powell the most stylish male.
The sweeps were a hit with the assistance of Dan Missen of Sky Racing doing the phantom race calls.

It’s been a fantastic month for the Junior Chamber!
On Wednesday 19th October, we mixed up our usual Monthly Networking Drinks, and headed to Sonny’s Bakery for an evening of coffee, canapes and conscious conversations about mental health.
We were delighted to host a Big Blue Table to raise awareness of mental health in rural areas and raise money for Beyond Blue's support services.
It was a really special evening filled with great conversation, personal reflections and inspiring stories. Thanks to our three local speakers who courageously shared their own experiences, as well as Bell Partners for sponsoring the event.
We were able to raise $530 thanks to the generous donations of attendees and members of our local community.
Stay tuned for more events coming up soon including our next round of Barefoot Bowls at South Tamworth Bowling Club – always a popular and well attended event on the Junior Chamber calendar!
Our annual State of the Nation Leaders Forum luncheon was held last Thursday at the ibis Styles Tamworth. Member for New England Barnaby Joyce delivered an address fired straight from the hip and attracted some engaging questions from the floor. Regional Australia Bank CEO David Heine shared an overview on the bank and delivered a presentation that was well received.

Congratulations to Samantha Fairless – Regional Recruitment Partners, who was the lucky door prize winner of two return tickets Tamworth to Sydney or Brisbane courtesy of Link Airways.

10 November
The Small Business ‘Health Check’ Fair is the perfect workshop for small business owners, managers and anyone thinking of starting a new business. Professionals in their respective fields will share expert advice to allow attendees to get an idea of what they might not be doing optimally and what services are available.
Creating Destination Ambassador's for the Local Tourism Industry - Forum
17 November
How can the accommodation group, hospitality sector and destination service providers work together as Destination Ambassadors?
Who is offering destination experiences in the LGA? What are tourism providers doing to promote and attract tourists? How can we assist our to our all-important visitors?
Learn about local tourism experiences, meet fellow accommodation, F&B and hospitality providers, and gain a better understanding of what the region has to offer so as to create Destination Ambassadors in our own back yard.

How to Apply for Business Grants - Workshop
22 November
The workshop is the ideal, practical guide to grant writing for any established business, start-up business or entrepreneur seeking to attain funding by applying for grants.
This is a practical step by step workshop where grants from the public sector will assessed and participants will have the opportunity to draft grant applications in the workshop and have them assessed by the facilitator.

This year the Business Chamber has 5 vacancies for the Board of Directors. We have been fortunate to receive 7 nominations. Applications for the 2022 Innovate with nbn Grant are currently open and are closing on the 20th November 2022.
This initiative aims to help regional based businesses and individuals transform their great ideas into game-changing achievements. There is $125,000 in total funding up for grabs to support regional and remote businesses to drive the development and adoption of their ideas.
nbn have organised two online Information Sessions with guest speakers to provide further information for potential applicants and an overview of the application process.
SESSION 2 - an online Information Session with guest speaker Philip Honey from Stirlings to Coast Farmers, recipient of the 2021 Agriculture Category grant. Philip will provide his insight on how winning the Agriculture category in 2021 has opened new doors and propelled their business forward. Also hear from Luke Williams, Program Manager for the Innovate with nbn™ Grant, who will provide an overview of the categories, who can apply and the application process.
